Cornell, LSU, and the America That Keeps Choosing Predators: What the Hell Is Wrong With Us?

“A nation that excuses its predators will always silence its survivors.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. And call in the ancestors. The loud ones, the unfiltered ones, the ones who never learned to whisper. Today I’m summoning Ida B. Wells, Maya Angelou, Nina Simone, Toni Morrison, and every grandmother who ever slammed a cast‑iron skillet down and said, “Not my babies. Not today. Not ever.” Because what we’re about to talk about requires their fire, their fury, and their refusal to sit politely while the world burns around us. They are pacing. They’re rattling the windows. They’re demanding to know how a nation with libraries, universities, churches, and a Constitution still can’t figure out that rape is wrong.

Cornell University and Louisiana State University are two institutions that love to brag about excellence, prestige, and legacy. Yet somehow can’t grasp the basic concept of protecting students from sexual assault. And now punishments include writing an essay? As if rape is a missed homework assignment. As if trauma is a teachable moment for the predator. Instead of a lifelong sentence for the victim. The ancestors are not amused. And neither am I.

Let’s ask the question America keeps dodging like it’s a bill collector, “What the hell is wrong with us when we have created a rape culture?” And don’t you dare pretend it came out of nowhere. Let’s start at the top at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Where 77,000,000 voters decided that sexual abuse, rape allegations, and bragging about assault were just personality quirks. You know the excuses about “Locker room talk,” “Boys will be boys” , and “He tells it like it is.” No. He told us exactly what he does. And millions said, “Sounds good to me.”

When the leader of the country can say he can “grab them by the pussy” and get away with it, why are we shocked when college students mimic the behavior? Why are we surprised when institutions protect predators? Why do we act confused when victims stay silent? This is not confusion. This is culture. This is conditioning. This is America refusing to confront its sickness.

Politicians have paid off victims. Church leaders have hidden abusers behind pulpits. Celebrities have settlements thicker than their resumes. And the public shrugs. But victims get shamed. We get interrogated. We get asked what we were wearing. We get told we “waited too long.” We get treated like E. Jean Carroll who was sexually assaulted, defamed, mocked, and dragged by the very man who attacked her, Donald Trump. And by his cultists who call themselves “Christians.”And you wonder why so many stay silent? You wonder why survivors disappear into themselves? You wonder why healing feels like climbing a mountain with no summit? Here are two recent incidences of the same type of justified behavior.

Cornell University — Current Case (2024–2026)

The current Cornell case centers on a lawsuit filed in September 2026 by a former student, Jane Doe, who alleges she was drugged and gang‑raped by seven Chi Phi fraternity members on October 19, 2024. According to the lawsuit, she was intoxicated. Coerced into snorting what defendants claimed was ketamine. And then repeatedly assaulted for several hours by multiple fraternity members. One defendant allegedly sent a Snapchat message to the Chi Phi group chat advertising “free pussy” to encourage more men to join the assault. Doe reported the incident to Cornell police weeks later. The university conducted at least 12 hearings. Of the seven accused, only two were expelled. Others received lesser sanctions such as suspensions, workshops, or essays, according to Doe’s attorney. No arrests were made. And the Tompkins County District Attorney stated there was “insufficient evidence” for criminal charges. Cornell confirmed the fraternity remains barred from campus. And acknowledged that defendants were offered opportunities to “mitigate their conduct.” But cited federal privacy laws in declining to disclose individual disciplinary outcomes. https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/cornell-university-lawsuit-fraternity-rape-allegations/?utm_source=copilot.com

Louisiana State University (LSU) — Current Case (2025–2026)

The current LSU case involves a sophomore student, Kendall Danielle, who alleges she was raped by an LSU football player on October 18, 2025, around 4:30 a.m. She underwent a rape kit examination and later participated in LSU’s Title IX process. Which concluded that the player was responsible for rape. And suspended him for two semesters. However, he appealed and was ultimately allowed to return to campus. Resume football activities. And participate in student organizations. Despite still being found responsible.

Danielle alleges the player’s mother contacted her urging her not to pursue charges because it could harm his football career. And that the player sent her $1,000 in an attempt to keep her from pressing charges. After learning he was allowed back on campus, she went public on TikTok and subsequently filed a criminal complaint. The East Baton Rouge District Attorney has since opened a criminal investigation. They are requesting reports from LSU, LSU Police, and Baton Rouge Police. LSU maintains it followed Title IX procedures and is cooperating with law enforcement. The player has not been publicly identified. https://www.wwltv.com/article/news/crime/student-files-sexual-assault-complaint-against-lsu-football-player/289-2bfa7986-e5fe-4d24-92db-9b069888c305?utm_source=copilot.com

But let’s talk about the roots of this rot. Is it the religions that teach masturbation is sinful? Is it the purity culture that tells young people their bodies are dangerous? Is it the sermons that say touching yourself will send you to hell? Let me be clear. You will not burn in the lake of flames for using two body parts God created you to have. For God’s sake, let them masturbate. Because when you shame normal, sexual behavior, you get people like the Duggars. They were raised in sexual repression so severe it turns into predation.

Is it misogyny influencers like Andrew Tate and Nick Fuentes? Men who teach boys that women are objects, property, and targets. Men who profit off hatred and call it masculinity. Or is it simply that America still refuses to teach boundaries? Still refuses to teach consent? Still refuses to teach respect?

Cornell and LSU are not anomalies. They are symptoms. Symptoms of a nation that treats sexual assault like a PR inconvenience instead of a violent crime. And when universities punish predators with essays, counseling sessions, or “reflection assignments,” they are telling victims, “Your trauma is worth less than his future.” And that is the message survivors hear every single day.

All predators no matter their status, wealth, influence, or fan base, should be held accountable. Not protected. Not excused. Not wrapped in a Bible verse and called “God’s Will.”

As a sexual assault survivor myself, I will never fully heal from the years I was assaulted. Raped sometimes daily by a man who is just like Donald Trump. I will never fully heal from the damage inflicted on me at five years old by someone who saw a child as an easy target. You will never understand that fear. And I pray you never have to.

Lift victims up. Lift survivors up. Hold predators accountable. Every single one of them. Because rape is not a mistake. It is not a misunderstanding. It is not a lapse in judgment. It is violence. It is domination. It is a choice. And America needs to stop pretending otherwise. Thanks for reading!

Affirmation: I am not what happened to me. I am what I survived. My voice is powerful. My truth is valid. And my healing is sacred.

Mike Johnson: The Speaker Who Tried to Out‑Pray Reality

“Hypocrisy is loud. But truth has a way of hollering back.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle “Oh my GOD this is terrible.” And call upon the ancestors. We’re about to talk about Speaker of the House “Moses” Mike “Grindr” Johnson. Also known as the leader of the Closetocracy. The man who somehow manages to be both the nation’s top lawmaker. And the world’s most chaotic religious plot twist. Ancestors, gather ‘round. Bring sweet tea. Bring smelling salts. Bring a fan. Because this level of hypocrisy has me sweating like a Pentecostal preacher caught in a drag brunch.

The political and religious hypocrisy in this country has gotten so loud it’s rattling the picture frames in my hallway. Somebody grab the emergency sweet tea. We’re going to talk about the kind of political behavior that makes the ancestors collectively sigh.

This is about The Speaker of the House and the Biblical‑themed, reality‑TV‑level chaos that has unfolded since he picked up that gavel. And yes, we’re using real facts. And yes we’re adding Southern sarcasm so thick you could spread it on a biscuit.

10 FACTUAL THINGS MIKE JOHNSON HAS DONE, WITH SOURCES, AND A WHOLE LOT OF SOUTHERN SARCASM

1. Said God put him in the Speaker’s chair.

4. Supported criminalizing same‑sex relationships earlier in his career.

5. Promoted “covenant marriage” to make divorce harder.

6. Opposes abortion in all cases, including rape and incest.

His stance is among the most restrictive in Congress. Source: NPR https://www.npr.org/2023/10/26/1210099674/mike-johnson-abortion-views(npr.org in Bing)

Southern translation: Louisiana said “help,” and he said “thoughts and prayers only.”

9. Advocated for monitoring pornography as a “moral threat.”

He pushed anti‑porn activism and surveillance. Source: Rolling Stone https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/mike-johnson-anti-porn-activism-1234854567/ (rollingstone.com in Bing)

Southern translation: He wants to track your browser history like it’s a Fitbit.

10. Called climate change a hoax.

He dismissed climate science and opposed environmental regulations. Source: The Guardianhttps://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/oct/26/mike-johnson-climate-change-hoax (theguardian.com in Bing)

Southern translation: Sir, the Gulf of Mexico is boiling like crawfish water. This is not the time.

Light the charcoal again. Because this whole situation needs a spiritual cleansing, a sage bundle, and maybe a priest. The Speaker’s record is a masterclass in political contradiction:

  • Biblical metaphors for leadership.
  • Restrictive policies for families.
  • Attempts to overturn elections.
  • Climate denial while the South melts like a candle.
  • LGBTQIA+ scapegoating while preaching “love thy neighbor.”

It’s the kind of hypocrisy that makes Southern liberals clutch their pearls and say, “Lord, take the wheel, the whole car, and the insurance policy.” The ancestors are tired. The sweet tea is gone. And I’m officially closed for renovations due to excessive foolishness. Thanks for reading! And get out and vote.“So what do you think? Is reality being dramatic? Or is Mike “Grindr” Johnson just trying to pray the plot twist away?”

Affirmation: I stand firm in my truth, my identity, and my joy. No matter who tries to rewrite the narrative.

The Kennedy Who Should’ve Been Left at the Gas Station

“When the fools get loud, the wise get louder.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Invoke the ancestors. Today, we are not just telling a story. We are opening a spiritual case file. Flipping through the receipts. And calling on every grandmother who ever whispered, “Lord, give me strength,” while stirring a pot of beans on low heat.

Pull up a chair. Settle your spirit. And let the smoke rise like a prayer. The absolute mess we’re about to discuss requires divine intervention. Celestial supervision. And at least three ancestors who died with their arms crossed and their eyebrows raised.

The charcoal is crackling. The veil is thin. And the ancestors are already leaning in like, “Child, what did he do now?”

In this satirical universe where chaos reigns. And common sense is on sabbatical. Government officials behave like they were raised by feral raccoons. We must call upon the old ones. Because only the ancestors can help us process the level of unhinged, backwoods, science‑dodging, roadkill‑collecting foolishness we’re about to unpack. So, gather ‘round. Let the smoke carry our disbelief to the heavens. The ancestors are already clutching their pearls. Let’s begin.

A Fully Unhinged Exposé Of Robert Kennedy, Jr.

  1. He collects roadkill like a buzzard with a coupon book. And raccoon peeners? Top of the list. He calls them “nature’s USB drives.” No one knows why.
  2. He claims a brain worm once ate part of his brain. The worm died of starvation. Scientists are still apologizing to the worm’s family.
  3. He once found a dead bear cub. Tossed it in his SUV. And staged it in Central Park as a bicycle accident. What in the Caucasian hell was the artistic vision here? “Bear on Wheels: A Tragedy?”
  4. He chainsawed the head off a whale and strapped it to the family minivan. With his family inside. Nothing says “summer vacation” like whale decapitation.
  5. He spreads anti‑vaccine propaganda like it’s essential oils for the soul. Meanwhile, measles is back like a 90s boy band reunion tour.
  6. He claims Tylenol and vaccines cause autism.Genetics: “Hi, yes, hello, it’s literally me.”
  7. He blames chemicals and antidepressants for school shootings instead of guns or germs. This is the kind of logic you get when your brain worm files for unemployment.
  8. He gutted the CDC and FDA like a catfish at a Baptist fish fry. mRNA development? Gone. Science? On lunch break.
  9. “Zombie Programs” remain funded but inactive. Alzheimer’s tracking, epilepsy data, smoking research all ghosted like a bad Tinder date.
  10. Milk testing programs paused. Because who needs safe milk? Just roll the dice, America.
  11. Foodborne disease surveillance cut from eight pathogens to two. Cyclospora, the explosive diarrhea parasite, now running free like it’s on spring break.
  12. Salmonella linked to eggs, jalapeños, salsa, guacamole. Basically, anything that makes life worth living.
  13. E. coli linked to frozen blueberries. Even your smoothie is trying to kill you.
  14. Listeria linked to soft cheeses. Brie has become a weapon of mass destruction.
  15. Emerging diseases everywhere. Measles, SARS, MERS, HIV, Lyme, Hantavirus, Dengue, West Nile, Malaria, TB, Ebola, Cholera, Pertussis, Influenza, Pneumococcal, Gonorrhea, and Zika. It’s like Pokémon but the “gotta catch ’em all” is involuntary.
  16. WI-FI causes brain cancer. Oh Lord, not this one. If that were true, half the South would’ve ascended to glory the minute we plugged in the first Walmart router. My ancestors did not survive plagues, droughts, and cousins marrying cousins just for me to be taken out by the same signal that lets me watch cat videos at 2 a.m. And every teenager with an iPhone glued to their skull would be glowing like a microwave burrito. The ancestors are looking down like, “Child that’s not how any of this works.”
  17. He’s a former heroin addict. Nothing says “health leadership” like a résumé that reads like a cautionary tale.

And so, as we stand here in the Deep South. With humidity thick enough to baptize a biscuit. Mosquitoes big enough to file W‑2s. And diseases spreading faster than gossip at a Pentecostal baby shower. We must confront the catastrophic reality of this administration.

Robert Kennedy, Jr. has turned the Department of Health into a haunted Cracker Barrel gift shop. The CDC is now operating out of a storage unit behind a Dollar Tree. The FDA is holding meetings in a Waffle House booth between fights. And the nation’s food safety program is being run by a man who thinks Wi‑Fi is a brain‑melting death ray. And raccoon peeners are collectible scientific artifacts.

This man has staged bear cub bicycle accidents. Decapitated whales for “research.” And gutted disease surveillance so badly that even the pathogens are confused. Cyclospora is out here hosting explosive‑diarrhea raves in salad bowls. Salmonella is moonlighting in guacamole. Listeria is hiding in brie like it’s playing peek‑a‑boo with your intestines. E. coli is chilling in frozen blueberries like it’s on a wellness retreat.

Meanwhile, Robert Kennedy, Jr. is wandering the halls of government wrapped in tin foil. Muttering about brain worms, Wi‑Fi demons, and antidepressants causing school shootings. My ancestors have stopped pacing and started drinking. My cats have filed for emancipation. And somewhere in the distance, a raccoon is whispering, “I didn’t consent to any of this.”

America is being run by a cabinet of swamp goblins who think science is a rumor. And public health is a suggestion. We are one bad decision away from the CDC issuing guidelines like, “If your milk glows, don’t drink it.” “If your salad screams, throw it out.” “If your Wi‑Fi router starts chanting, unplug it and pray.”

This administration is not just incompetent. It’s aggressively committed to the art of being wrong. They are running the country like a cursed potluck where every dish gives you diarrhea. And every beverage is room‑temperature milk.

So here it is the final truth. The last nerve snapping. The mic dropping so hard it cracks the floor. Vote these clowns out before they kill us all. Not in a poetic sense. Not in a metaphorical sense. But in the very real sense that I would like to eat cheese, blueberries, and guacamole again without fearing explosive gastrointestinal fireworks. Charcoal still smoking. Ancestors packing their bags. Cats already gone. America deserves better than a man who thinks Wi‑Fi is a death beam. And raccoon anatomy is a hobby. Thank for reading! Get out and vote! “Which is more concerning? The raccoon situation? Or the fact that none of us are even surprised anymore?”

Affirmation: I release chaos that isn’t mine. Protect my peace. And refuse to fear Wi‑Fi because of swamp goblins.

I’ve Had It Podcast: The Southern Sass Survival Guide for Blue Dots in Red States

“Sometimes the only thing keeping me from losing my already lost religion is two Oklahoma women yelling about petty grievances.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Invoke the ancestors. Preferably the messy ones. The ones who show up wearing house shoes. Clutching a gas‑station fountain drink. And whispering, “You’re gonna wanna sit down for this one.”

Because today, we gather in the sacred, humid, mosquito‑infested, spiritually charged arena to praise. Roast. And spiritually hydrate the chaotic holiness that is the I’ve Had It Podcast. The only place where two white liberal women from the red MAGA plains of Oklahoma have somehow built a sanctuary for every exhausted blue‑dot soul trying to survive in a country where people still proudly drink out of Stanley cups like it’s a personality trait. Let me set the table like MeeMaw used to that is loud. And with sweet tea strong enough to dissolve enamel.

Jennifer Welch and Angie “Pumps” Sullivan aren’t just podcasters. They are the patron saints of Petty Grievances. The matriarchs of Messy Liberation. And the spiritual mothers of every liberal woman trapped in a red state. While trying not to throat‑punch someone at the grocery store.

Jennifer, the sarcastically blunt atheist queen, speaks with the kind of clarity that only comes from years of saying, “No, actually, that is stupid” out loud. She’s the type of woman who could walk into a revival tent. Sneeze. And accidentally deconstruct someone’s entire theology. On a side note I’ll also say that she is an Olympic level Pickle Ball Champion like we’ve never seen before in the history of the world.

Then there’s Pumps. Lord help us all. Pumps is a recovering evangelical, the HBIC (Head Beaver In Charge), the teeny weenieologist, the MeeMaw Meat Curtains because she is much older than Jennifer. And apparently the patron saint of Asexuality in the Bible Belt. Her last sexual encounter was somewhere around 1,000 days ago. And Jennifer multiplies that number tenfold with each episode until the math starts giving Old Testament genealogy. We’re approaching, “And on the 40,000th day, Pumps rested.”

And presiding over this circus of holy chaos is Kiley. The beautiful lesbian gaytriot producer who keeps the entire operation from combusting. She’s the glue, the duct tape, the Queer Logistics Coordinator who ensures Jennifer and Pumps don’t accidentally start a small fire while recording. She produces the hilarious fuckery with the precision of a woman who knows exactly how chaotic these two can be.

As a white liberal sarcastic woman myself from the red MAGA state of Mississippi, these ladies have become my emotional support podcast. They take the isolation of wanting equal rights for everyone. While surrounded by neighbors who think democracy is optional. And turn it into a family. A loud, hilarious politically petty family that supports all marginalized groups and stands up for democracy. Despite the red hatred swirling around them.

And let me tell you. And their nicknames for politicians? Baby, they speak fluent Southern shade. People like Donald “Cankles McTaco Tits” Trump, Moses Mike Grindr Johnson, the late Lindsey “Lady” Graham, “Big Titty” Bryon Knoem, “Smokey-eyed sociopath” JD Vance, “Lyin’” Ted Cruz, Flamboyant Jesse “Lady” Waters with Fox News, Natalie “The Bunny Boiler” Harp, Markwayne “Booster Box” Mullin, and others. I heard that recently they both spoke with Mitch “Dead Not Dead” McConnell for twenty minutes from his life support rehabilitation unit. They roast public figures with the same energy my Aunt Linda uses when she says, “I’m not saying she’s trashy. But she does own a leopard‑print Bible cover.”

They expose the closetocracy, the folks who legislate against the very community they enjoy on weekends, with surgical precision and the comedic timing only two women who have truly had it can deliver. Are they crass? Yes. Do they speak my language? Absolutely. Do they have a low tolerance for stupidity? Honey, they have a negative tolerance.

And Pumps, sweet Pumps, if she would stop vaping like she’s trying to summon a Civil War ghost, Jennifer might finally unclench. And if she would please stop pooping in Styrofoam cups like she’s conducting a science fair project, the online audience would stop peeing on ourselves from laughing. Get it together, Pumps. At least the saggin’ dragons are secured.

These women have been my morning oxygen for over a year. They are my people that are  hilarious. And, at times, inappropriate. Unfiltered. Compassionate. And petty in all the right places. If you’re a prude. Easily offended. Or still clinging to conservative Christianity where some Christians use scripture as a mascot for cruelty, this is not your ministry.

But if you’re like me a blue dot in a red state. A queer person whose family can’t quite figure out acceptance. Or someone who needs laughter more than judgment. These ladies feel like home. They are the family I needed. The humor I craved. And the reminder that democracy is worth fighting for even when surrounded by folks who think Jesus rode a dinosaur. And if island living as a blue dot in a red state is what it takes, then baby, I’ll take my new family without question.

So let me say this with the full force of my ancestors, my sass, my trauma, my cats, and my last functioning nerve. The I’ve Had It Podcast isn’t just entertainment. It’s survival. It’s community. It’s the comedic resistance movement for every marginalized person living in a state where Hobby Lobby aisles are filled with people who think equality is a threat to their throw pillows.

Jennifer, Pumps, and Kiley have built a refuge for the tired, the queer, the liberal, the fed‑up, the chronically sarcastic, and the spiritually dehydrated. They’ve given us permission to laugh at the absurdity of our political landscape. To call out hypocrisy with humor. And to find joy in the middle of a country that feels like it’s being run by people who failed eighth‑grade civics. And who ate boogers and glue but never outgrew those behaviors.

I will be a loyal gaytriot as long as these ladies are around. I will follow them into the trenches of democracy, petty grievances, and Pumps’ colon‑control journey. I will take this island living. This blue dot existence. And choose my new family without hesitation.

Thank you, ladies, for your humor, your compassion, and your unapologetic refusal to tolerate bullshit in this tumultuous time. You are the laughter that keeps us fighting. CACAW!!!! Mic dropped. Floor cracked. Humidity rising. Ancestors hollering, “That’s Right, Baby!” Thanks for reading! Please tune in every day to the I’ve Had It podcast for political news with lots of humor.

Affirmation: I honor my truth, humor, identity, and my chosen family. I choose joy. I choose community. And I choose to laugh loudly. Even in the places that try to silence me.

Why My Boundaries Offend People Who Benefited From My Lack of Them

“When you stop people‑pleasing, you don’t become unkind. You become un-owned.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Today we’re not just cleansing the air. We’re cleansing the generational rot that tried to bury us alive. While I also smile sweetly and was asked if I wanted more casserole.

There’s a special kind of exhaustion that comes from being raised in a culture where your worth is measured by how small you can make yourself. Where “good manners” means “don’t make anyone uncomfortable.” Even if you’re bleeding out emotionally. Where “respect” means “don’t you dare speak the truth out loud.” And the South? The South will hand you a monogrammed apron, a church bulletin, and a generational trauma starter pack before you can even walk. But today we’re unpacking all of it.

Let’s talk about people‑pleasing. Not the cute kind where you bring someone banana pudding because you love them. But the dangerous kind. The kind that rewires your nervous system. The kind that teaches you to abandon yourself so thoroughly that you forget you ever had needs in the first place.

People‑pleasing is not a personality trait. It’s a survival skill. A trauma response. A generational inheritance wrapped in a bow of “be sweet” and “don’t cause trouble.” And in the South, it’s practically a rite of passage.

We’re taught early don’t speak up. Don’t contradict. Don’t embarrass the family. Don’t make waves. Don’t question authority. Don’t tell the truth if the truth makes anyone uncomfortable. Don’t you dare put yourself first. That’s selfish. And for the love of all things holy, don’t let the church ladies hear you say “no.”

People‑pleasing becomes the currency of acceptance. The ticket to belonging. The price of being considered “good.” But here’s the sinister part. People‑pleasing trains you to betray yourself before anyone else even gets the chance. You learn to anticipate everyone’s needs but your own. You learn to apologize for existing. You learn to smile through pain so convincingly that even you forget you’re hurting. You learn to make yourself small enough to fit inside other people’s expectations. And the world, especially the Southern world, rewards you for it. Until you stop.

The moment you stop people‑pleasing. The moment you say “no,” or “that’s not okay,” or “I’m not doing that anymore.” The moment you choose yourself? Suddenly you’re the villain in a story you didn’t write. Suddenly you’re “difficult.” Suddenly you’re “ungrateful.” Suddenly you’re “too sensitive,” “too outspoken,” “too much,” “too emotional,” “too opinionated,” “too educated,” “too aware,” and “too alive.” But the truth is simple. You’re not too much. You’re just finally enough for yourself. And that terrifies people who benefited from your silence.

People‑pleasing is dangerous because it teaches you that your safety depends on your compliance. It teaches you that love must be earned through self‑abandonment. It teaches you that your needs are negotiable. But everyone else’s are sacred. When you grow up in a culture that worships politeness more than honesty. Appearances more than integrity. And reputation more than reality. You learn to disappear. Until one day, you don’t.

And here’s where it gets personal. This isn’t theory for me. This isn’t something I read in a book or heard in a podcast. This is lived experience that was carved into my bones. Stitched into my history. And dragged behind me for decades like a cross I never volunteered to carry.

On a personal note, my family marinated me in people‑pleasing my entire life. And when you don’t comply? You get labeled the troublemaker. The problem. The one who “changed.” The one who “thinks she’s better.” The one who “needs to calm down.” The one who “makes everything difficult.” But not teaching me boundaries while simultaneously demanding I people‑please was dangerous. Not inconvenient. Not uncomfortable. Dangerous.

I have almost died multiple times because I gave more of myself than I had to give. I was trained to prioritize everyone else’s happiness over my own survival. I was taught that my needs were optional. But their approval was oxygen. And in the South, it’s a shameful way of life to even question this dynamic.

I had to come to a point, not helped by their expectations, where I finally put myself first. And now that I have strong boundaries, my family and the community think I’m “nasty” because I tell them I don’t need their validation. They want me to “cow tow” to their needs while never expecting the same from them. And that, my friends, is the pinnacle of hypocrisy and controlling behavior. And at this point in my life, I can say with confidence that I’ll never allow myself to be controlled by someone else ever again.

Let me make this plain in a way even the most selectively‑forgetful, Bible‑thumping, reputation‑worshipping, boundary‑hating folks can understand. I am no longer available for my own destruction. I am no longer the family sponge soaking up everyone else’s dysfunction. I am no longer the emotional punching bag for people who refuse to face their own shadows. I am no longer the scapegoat for sins I didn’t commit. I am no longer the child who learned to survive by disappearing. I am no longer the adult who thought love meant self‑sacrifice. I am no longer the woman who begged for crumbs of acceptance from people who never learned how to love without conditions. I am done.

I’m done with the gaslighting. Done with the hypocrisy. Done with the “good Christian” performances. Done with the selective morality. done with the selective compassion. Done with the silence that protects abusers. Done with the shame that was never mine to carry. Done with the generational curses disguised as tradition. And done with the expectation that I should shrink so others can feel tall.

I am not here to make anyone comfortable. I am not here to uphold anyone’s illusion. I am not here to play the role they assigned me. I am not here to be palatable, agreeable, or quiet. I am here to live. Fully. Boldly. Truthfully. Unapologetically. And if my boundaries offend you? If my healing threatens you? If my voice rattles your cage? If my truth exposes your lies? That’s not my burden. That’s your mirror.

So let me end this with the clarity of a woman who has crawled out of the grave they dug for me. I didn’t lose my family. I lost my captors. I didn’t lose my community. I lost my chains. I didn’t lose my identity. I reclaimed it. And I will never, ever, ever hand it back. Lights out. Thanks for reading! To thine own self be true. What are your experiences with this?

Affirmation: My boundaries are sacred. My truth is valid. My life belongs to me now fully and forever.

The Blood on Mississippi Soil: Why Silence Is No Longer an Option

“Silence is the oldest accomplice of violence. And Mississippi has been silent for far too long.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal, y’all. Because my ancestors are pacing the porch tonight. I can feel them in the humidity, the cicada buzz, and in the way the air gets thick right before a storm. They’re whispering. Tapping their feet. And shaking their heads the way old Southern aunties do when they’ve had enough of the foolishness. And Lord knows Mississippi has given us more than enough foolishness wrapped in Bible verses. Dipped in denial. And served with a side of “the South will rise again” delusion.

Because let’s tell the truth. The “Christian” community down here loves to shout about sin until it’s time to call out violence against Black bodies. Then suddenly everybody’s quiet. Clutching pearls. And humming hymns like silence is salvation. They’ll condemn a teenager’s skirt length before they condemn a system that keeps killing Black people. They’ll preach forgiveness while refusing accountability. They’ll talk about “God’s love” while ignoring the blood on their own soil. And I’m done pretending that’s holy.

Mississippi has always been a place where racism isn’t just a belief. It’s infrastructure. It’s policy. It’s tradition. It’s the foundation poured into the dirt generations ago. And too many folks still treat it like sacred ground.

And now, again, violence has come knocking at the doors of Black families. Again, the state government refuses to investigate. Again, accountability disappears when the killer is white. Again, we are told to “wait for the facts.” While the facts are buried under good ol’ boy politics and backroom handshakes.

A one-year-old Black baby was shot and killed by a white officer over diapers. Let me say that again. A baby died because a grown man with a badge felt threatened by diapers.

A Black teenage boy was found dead under mysterious circumstances. And instead of answers, we get a cover-up thicker than Delta mud. Evidence missing. Stories changing. Officials shrugging like a child’s life is just a paperwork inconvenience.

And now, a Black woman found hanging from a tree in 2026. And the state wants us to believe it’s anything other than what it looks like. Mississippi has a long, violent history with Black bodies and trees. We know what this is. We’ve seen it before. Our ancestors saw it before. And the silence from leadership is louder than any confession.

This isn’t coincidence. This isn’t isolated. This is a pattern, a legacy, and a sickness that Mississippi refuses to treat because too many people benefit from the infection. And let me tell you something. I’m old enough now to stand up and say it plainly. I’m old enough to fight for marginalized groups which include Black folks, brown folks, Indigenous folks, immigrants, and anyone who doesn’t fit the whitewashed mold Mississippi keeps trying to force us into. I’m old enough to say that I’m proud that I didn’t buy into the racist ideology that some of my own family members still cling to like it’s heirloom china.

I broke the cycle. I chose humanity over heritage. I chose truth over tradition. I chose justice over comfort. And if that makes me the black sheep at the family reunion, hand me the potato salad because I’ll graze in the pasture with pride. I’m proud to say I’m not like them. Not molded by their fear. Not shaped by their hate. Not carved into the same brittle statue of “tradition” they keep worshiping like it’s holy. I’m proud to say I crawled out of the same Mississippi clay. And still managed to grow in a different direction. And it was one that didn’t twist my roots around racism and call it heritage.

If rejecting their ideology means I lose my seat at the family table, then pull the chair out from under me. If refusing to swallow their silence means I’m no longer welcome in their church pews, then let the hymns echo without me. If choosing humanity over hypocrisy means I have to walk away from religion entirely, then I’ll walk away barefoot. Head high and unbothered.

Because I refuse to be loyal to a system that kills Black children and calls it “procedure.” I refuse to be loyal to a state that covers up Black death and calls it “ongoing investigation.” I refuse to be loyal to a community that sees a Black woman hanging from a tree and calls it “unfortunate.” I refuse to be loyal to people who hide behind scripture while ignoring suffering. I refuse to be loyal to any ideology that demands my silence while it destroys lives.

Mississippi may be built on racism. But I am not. Mississippi may cling to its racist past. But I do not. Mississippi may worship its own mythology. But I refuse to kneel. I am not like them. I will never be like them. And if breaking away from their beliefs is the cost of protecting my soul, integrity, and humanity, then that’s a price I’ll pay in full with no regrets.

Let them keep their “South will rise again” fantasies. I’m rising in a different direction. One they can’t touch. Can’t claim. And sure as hell can’t control. That’s my mic drop. And I won’t be picking it back up. Thanks for reading! What are your thoughts?

Affirmation: I honor my ancestors by refusing to repeat their pain. I stand in truth. I stand in courage. And I stand in love even when I stand alone.

A Prayer So Wild Even the Angels Clocked Out Early

“Some prayers lift the spirit. Others just lift the eyebrows.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Hide your children, your casseroles, and your common sense. Because what I witnessed at that unfortunate local Mississippi event wasn’t a prayer. It was a theological Nascar crash. And every angel in heaven refused to file the insurance claim.

Picture it. A field full of red hats bobbing like a colony of patriotic mushrooms. The air thick with humidity, Axe body spray, and generational resentment. A folding table sagging under the weight of mayonnaise‑based salads. And a speaker system held together with duct tape and denial.

Then he stepped forward. The Chosen One of the Red‑Hat Prayer Circle. A man built like a refrigerator with opinions. A man whose shirt had more eagles than the actual sky. A man who looked like he’d been baptized in Monster Energy. He grabbed the microphone like he was about to drop a mixtape called “Gospel of the Grievance.”

He clears his throat like he’s about to summon the Holy Ghost, the founding fathers, and the HOA board all at once. And then. Lord help us. He opened his mouth.

What came out was not a prayer. It was not a blessing. It was not even a coherent sentence structure. It was a spiritual Yelp review written by a man who thinks the Holy Trinity is God, Country, and Bathroom Legislation. Then he begins The Prayer. The one that made the angels file HR complaints.

“Heavenly Father. We come before you today under this blessed Mississippi sun. Which you made hotter every year to punish the radical left for their wickedness.

Lord, we know that every single problem in this world can be traced back to them. The hurricanes? The liberals. The price of eggs? The liberals. My gout flaring up last Tuesday? Father God, that was the liberals too.

And Lord, we thank you that our sins don’t count. Because we carry the “Jesus Warranty.” We swipe it like a rewards card. We sin. We repent. We sin again. And you just keep stamping that little heavenly punch card. But the liberals, Lord? Unforgivable. They are the real ones on the predatory registry. Not all the republicans. But that’s none of my business, Father.

Lord, we thank You that here in Mississippi, we stay focused on the things that matter most like genitals, bathrooms, and our loyal governor who kneels so faithfully before the Orange Messiah. He bends the knee so hard, Lord, he’s got calluses shaped like patriotism.

Father, we lift up the windmills to you. Those demonic pinwheels of destruction. They’re out there slaughtering birds. Driving whales insane. And screaming so loud they give people cancer. Lord, we know the whales are acting up because they can’t handle the noise. They’re liberals at heart, Father. Sensitive. Emotional. Always protesting something.

And Lord, we rebuke the immigrants who are coming here to eat our dogs and cats. We know this because someone’s cousin’s neighbor’s Facebook post said so. And that’s good enough for us.

Father, protect us from the left trying to make everyone gay and transgender. They’re out here handing out pronouns like coupons. Even though they say that pronouns are in the English language. And that’s also a hoax. Next thing you know, my truck’s gonna identify as a Prius.

Lord, we thank you for the brave idea of firing nuclear weapons into hurricanes. We know it would’ve worked if the deep state hadn’t interfered. We thank you for the tariffs on penguins, Father. The money is pouring in. We don’t know where from. But it’s pouring in.

We thank you for answering our prayer about gasoline. It’s the lowest it’s ever been. Even though the sign says otherwise. But we don’t read numbers. Lord numbers are liberal. We thank you for the funds for the Pedophile Patio at the White House. We don’t know what it is. But the liberals said it’s bad. So, it must really be good. And that’s enough for us.

Lord, we ask You to bless our crosses. Which absolve us of all wrongdoing. We wear them proudly, Father, even when we’re screaming at cashiers or crashing Grindr. Not that we’ve ever crashed Grindr. That was the liberals.

And Father, we rebuke the rumors about ladybugs we may or may not have contracted from Lindsey “Lady” Graham. We don’t have them. We’ve never had them. We don’t think. That’s the liberals’ fault too. Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray for our bathrooms. We pray for our genitals. We pray for our Orange Messiah. And we pray that you continue to forgive us instantly while holding everyone else accountable forever. In your holy, conservative, red‑hat‑approved name we pray. Amen.”

As the final “Amen” echoed across the field. Bounced off the port‑a‑potties. Ricocheting through the humidity. And startling at least three confused squirrels. I realized something profound. This wasn’t a prayer. This was a confession disguised as patriotism. A spiritual tantrum. A theological meltdown. A holy‑ghost‑free revival sponsored by conspiracy theories and lukewarm potato salad.

The red‑hat faithful walked away feeling forgiven. Justified. And spiritually moisturized. Not because they’d repented. But because they’d shouted loudly enough to drown out their own guilt. Meanwhile, the rest of us stood there blinking like we’d just witnessed a raccoon steal a wedding cake.

If delusion had a megachurch, this prayer would’ve been the keynote speaker. If hypocrisy had a hymn book, this prayer would’ve been track one. If nonsense had a national anthem, this prayer would’ve been sung at every football game.

And here’s my final word. May we all be delivered from prayers that sound like Facebook comments. May our humor stay sharp. Our queerness stay loud. And our spirits stay unbothered. And may the next local event have better food, better theology, and fewer polyester hats. Thanks for reading! And thank you for your attention to this matter. Praise Be To Allah!

Affirmation: I stand rooted in truth, humor, and queer resilience. No amount of red‑hat chaos can shake my spirit or dim my brilliance.

Invisible Drones, Algae Shots & Cage Fights on the Lawn: America Has Officially Lost the Plot

“If the government wanted to distract us, they should’ve at least been successful at cleaning the pool first.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Tell the ancestors to bring EVERYTHING. Because today, we are grilling the latest chapter in the Trump Administration’s™ ongoing performance art piece titled: “What If Government, But Make It Walmart at 2 AM?”

My ancestors, who survived famine, war, plagues, the Great Depression, disco, and the invention of mayonnaise‑based salads, are hovering in the afterlife clutching rosaries, moonshine, and emotional support cigarettes. They whisper, “We did not cross oceans for this.” “We did not survive smallpox for this.” “We did not wear powdered wigs for this.” And yet. Here we are.

The White House lawn, sorry, the People’s Patch of Grass, has once again been transformed into a white‑trash UFC arena. Where sweaty men roll around in a cage like they’re auditioning for Magic Mike: Government Shutdown Edition.

The cage sits in the middle of the grass like someone ordered “UFC but make it emotionally repressed” off Wish. Tourists gather. Security pretends this is normal. And a lineup of men who look like they pre‑gamed with creatine, Axe body spray, and a quick scroll through Grindr. They begin stretching like they’re preparing for the world’s sweatiest Pride after‑party. Because nothing says “governing” like two shirtless dudes rolling around in a cage while America collectively whispers, “Is this foreign policy or foreplay?”

Piper: “Mother, why are the humans fighting in a metal box? Is this a mating ritual? Should we be concerned?”

Coco: “I’ve seen less homoerotic tension in a gay sauna on half‑price margarita night.”

Tinkerbell: “I’m only here for the snacks. Also, someone needs to drain that pool before it becomes sentient.”

And then, because absurdity must always escalate, the Trump Administration announces a fake assassination attempt involving Iranian drones that no one saw. No one heard. No one reported. And no one can explain. Because apparently even the drones were like, “Nah, we’re good.”

Suddenly, a man in a suit sprints across the lawn screaming, “THERE WAS AN ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT!” Everyone freezes. The fighters stop mid‑grapple. The tourists gasp. My cats blink.

Piper: “Mother, what?”

Coco: “By who? The drama club?”

Tinkerbell: “I bet it’s fake.”

And then the details emerge. The threat was Iranian drones. The drones were invisible. The attack was unconfirmed. The evidence was classified. The witnesses were busy. And the drones were never actually here. So basically, it was a crisis that didn’t happen. It was  reported by people who weren’t there. And it was involving drones that don’t exist.

Piper: “Mother, is this enrichment?”

Coco: “This is why aliens won’t visit us.”

Tinkerbell: “I’ve had hairballs more credible than this.”

Meanwhile, the Reflecting Pool…

Once majestic. Now the color of a Shrek smoothie. Flaking blue paint drifting like sad confetti. A smell that says, “Someone dumped a bucket of hot dog water in here.”

Piper: “Is that algae?”

Coco: “Is that paint peeling?”

Tinkerbell: “Is that the symbolic decay of national integrity?”

Me: “Yes, girls. Yes it is.”

And the Trump Administration never misses a chance to monetize national embarrassment. They announce the newest grift called:

THE PATRIOT PACK™ -$250

  • One (1) clump of algae harvested by an unpaid intern.
  • One (1) authentic blue paint chip scraped by a man named Randy who definitely vapes.
  • One (1) certificate of authenticity printed on a Chili’s receipt.

All in honor of the 250th Celebration of America, which would make the Founding Fathers want to walk into the ocean. Fake their own deaths. Or rise from the grave just to say, “We didn’t write the Constitution for this.” My ancestors join in from the spirit realm, “We crossed oceans for this?” “We survived smallpox for this?” “We lived through powdered wigs for this?” Great‑Aunt Myrtle adds, “At least the men are pretty.”

Enter: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Just when the chaos reaches peak humidity, a new figure emerges wearing flip‑flops, necklace of raccoon teeth, and the confidence of someone who once drank kombucha brewed in a boot. He steps up to a podium made of reclaimed pallets and emotional instability. He clears his throat. And announces, “THE REFLECTING POOL IS A MIRACLE.”

My cats freeze. My ancestors clutch their ghostly pearls. Tourists stop mid‑selfie. He continues, “This nutritious, peroxide‑infused, snake‑venom‑enhanced, algae is the future of American health.”

Piper: “Mother… is he okay?”

Coco: “Absolutely not.”

Tinkerbell: “I don’t want whatever he’s on.”

He waves a mason jar of glowing green sludge like it’s holy water from the Church of Whole Foods. He declares that one 8‑oz glass of Reflecting Pool Algae™ can cure Ebola, depression, substance abuse, homelessness, addiction, dementia, low sperm count, cancer, mental illness, autism, low birth rates, AIDS, seasonal allergies, Hanta virus, screwworm, Covid 1-19, bad vibes, accidental or intentional snake bites, rabies from raccoons, and “the spiritual constipation of the American soul.”

Piper: “Mother, that’s not how biology works.”

Coco: “That’s not how anything works.”

Tinkerbell: “I’m still not willing to try it.”

And of course it gets worse. He also announces the algae’s potency is enhanced by “a micro‑dose of raccoon penile essence. Which was harvested ethically from raccoons who died of natural causes such as bar fights or eating fireworks.” My ancestors scream in Latin. Piper faints. Coco gags. Tinkerbell whispers, “I knew raccoons were up to something.”

Some people cheer. Some people vomit. One man tries to buy a gallon jug. Another asks if it comes in sugar‑free. A woman from Ohio asks if it’s keto. He assures them, “It’s paleo, keto, vegan, carnivore, gluten‑free, dairy‑free, guilt‑free, and spiritually orgasmic.”

The Trump Administration immediately embraces the miracle. They announce a national algae initiative. A Reflecting Pool bottling plant. A Raccoon Essence Research Grant. A Buy One, Get One Half‑Off Patriot Pack™ And a new slogan, “Drink Up, America.” My ancestors begin drafting a petition to be reincarnated as Canadians.

And the leader of our horrifically spiraling country, President Donald Trump, is the man that governs like a Roomba with a dying battery. In the middle of the chaos, the cage match, the algae sales pitch, the invisible drones, the raccoon‑essence wellness seminar, he decided it was the perfect moment to take one of his signature American taxpayer funded, mini-stroke, dementia public naps, which his staff insists on calling “extended blinking” or “patriotic micro‑rest cycles.” Cameras zoomed in as his eyelids began performing what can only be described as a slow‑motion garage door malfunction. They were fluttering like a moth trapped in a lampshade. Tourists whispered, “Is he meditating?” While my cats debated whether he was buffering. Rebooting. Or experiencing yet another mini‑stroke‑adjacent moment that his administration would later blame on “wind fatigue.” Piper tilted her head. Coco rolled her eyes. Tinkerbell muttered, “Mother, the man is power‑napping through the downfall of civilization.” And honestly? She wasn’t wrong.

At the end of the day, America doesn’t need algae smoothies, raccoon penis extract, invisible drone attacks, cage fights on federal property, or $250 commemorative mold. We need accountability. We need sanity. We need leadership that doesn’t involve drinking pond scum like it’s a wellness shot from Satan’s juice bar.

And no matter how many shiny, chaotic, homoerotic lawn events the Trump Administration throws at us, the American people have not forgotten about the Epstein files. Nice try, Donald! Charcoal extinguished. Cats disgusted. Ancestors filing complaints. Nation still watching. Thanks for watching! What do you think of the embarrassing events that was supposed to celebrate our country?

Affirmation: I am grounded. I am powerful. And I refuse to be gaslit by algae, drones, raccoon essence, or commemorative mold.

Light the Charcoal: A Southern Exorcism of America’s Rape Culture

“Rape culture doesn’t survive because predators are powerful. It survives because communities are silent.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Call the ancestors. Summon the willfully blind Christians. And the politicians who pretend not to hear. We need to talk about rape culture in America. The one our government, our churches, and our “good Christian families” keep blessing with silence, excuses, and casseroles. And yes, I said “blessing.” Because at this point the way folks defend predators looks less like morality. And more like a full‑blown revival service for the unholy.

Let’s be real. The state of rape culture is a national embarrassment with a prayer chain. If any case even remotely resembled the Epstein files in another era, investigators would’ve been sprinting like their pensions depended on it. They would’ve been flipping mattresses. Interrogating houseplants. And subpoenaing the family dog.

But now? Now we’ve got a chunk of society the red hats, pearl‑clutchers, and “I did my own research” prophets. Who are bending over backwards to excuse behavior that would’ve made the Old Testament God pull out the smiting stick. And the churches? The churches are quieter than a deacon caught with his hand in the offering plate.

Pastors out here preaching “love thy neighbor” while refusing to even look at the neighbors who’ve been raped. Abused. Trafficked. Or discarded. Why? Because calling out evil might upset Brother Bob and Sister Brenda. The ones who tithe big and sin bigger. They’re terrified of making their donors have uncomfortable fee‑fees in their tum‑tums.

Meanwhile the Jesus they claim to follow? He would’ve flipped those tables. Reset them. And flipped them again like a CrossFit workout. But modern conservative Christianity? They’re too busy protecting their reputations and their potlucks to protect actual people. The hypocrisy is Olympic‑level.

They brag saying, “We donated clothes!” “We gave canned goods!” “We helped an organization!” But ask them, “Have you gone into homeless camps?” “Have you met LGBTQ+ folks and learned their needs?” “Have you talked to gang‑involved youth?” “Have you gone into prisons?” “Have you sat with a rape survivor and listened without judgment?” The answer is always, “No, but we thought about donating more socks.”

And the truth is this. They don’t want the stories. They don’t want the truth. They don’t want the discomfort. They want selective compassion. The kind that doesn’t require them to confront their own cowardice.

In the Deep South, especially places like Petal, Mississippi, silence is a religion all its own. People will gossip about who bought a new lawnmower. But mention rape, molestation, trafficking, or abuse and suddenly everyone’s got laryngitis. Your own family? They’d rather call you dramatic than confront the truth that predators thrive in silence. And that silence is a community project.

They’ll say, “That was a long time ago.,” “Why didn’t she tell someone earlier?,” “You need to move past it.” Or my personal favorite, “That’s water under the bridge.” Ma’am that “bridge” is built out of victims’ bones. And me a survivor who endured years of marital rape, stalking, gas lighting, humiliation, sexual perversion, coercion, and religiously‑justified abuse is still paying the price while they protect their comfort.

We live in a country where victims are interrogated. Predators are defended. Power is worshipped. Accountability is optional. And “locker room talk” is treated like scripture. People will twist themselves into pretzels to excuse the powerful. Even when over 1,000 children were harmed by the Epstein network, according to released documents. But sure. Let’s keep pretending the real threat is drag queens reading books.

I’ve worked with the hardest populations. The ones society throws away. And I’ve seen what happens when someone finally shows them compassion. The anger softens. The armor cracks. The humanity shows. The tears fall. And the healing begins just like it did with me after years of facing condemnation over compassion.

But conservative Christianity? They’d rather cling to superiority than step into the mess where Jesus actually lived. Jesus wasn’t selective. But they are. Jesus didn’t avoid the “dirty people.” But they do. Jesus didn’t say “somebody will help them.” But they do.

Let the truth rise like smoke. If America insists on normalizing rape culture through silence, excuses, politics, and selective morality, then let it be known, “We will not be quiet. We will not be polite. We will not protect predators. We will not bow to cowardice disguised as Christianity.” We stand on the side of consent, truth, survivors, and actual justice. Not the watered‑down, donor‑approved version preached from pulpits.

And to every person who says, “Why didn’t she leave?” “Why are you still talking about it?” Here’s your answer. Silence is how rape culture survives. And speaking is how we burn it to the ground.

And since we’re already in the deep end, let me go ahead and say the quiet part out loud. I’ve got people in my own family, bless their self‑appointed expertise hearts, who genuinely believe that if they weren’t physically present for the rape, then it simply did not occur. As if trauma requires a witness. As if my pain needs their signature to be valid. As if the only crimes that count are the ones they personally supervise.

Apparently they’ve never heard of how perpetrators keep victims silent. The threats. The manipulation. The shame. The fear. The isolation. The psychological warfare that could make a grown oak tree curl in on itself. They don’t know. Nor do they want to know what happens to a victim’s character the moment she speaks up. The smear campaigns. The disbelief. The “are you sure?” The “don’t ruin his life.” The “you’re exaggerating.” The “you must want money.” The “you’re being dramatic.” The “that was so long ago.”

Look no further than the current political climate. And the biases people cling to like life rafts. Truth is dangerous because truth destroys propaganda. Truth makes people wrong. Truth forces accountability. And Lord knows some folks would rather swallow a cactus whole than admit they were wrong.

Not all religious people. But let’s be honest about the ratios. This isn’t a blanket statement about every religious person or every church. I’ve met the ones who actually step into the uncomfortable places. The ones who sit with survivors. Walk into homeless camps. Support LGBTQ+ youth. Visit prisons. And show compassion without needing applause.

Those people? They’re angels in work boots. They don’t need a spotlight. They don’t need a plaque. They don’t need a Facebook post. But they are the minority. The majority? They’re too busy polishing their image. Protecting their comfort. And pretending that if they ignore the suffering long enough, it’ll politely disappear like a casserole dish after a funeral.

Most people can’t handle the truth because the truth would force them to confront their own biases. Their own silence. Their own complicity. Their own selective morality. Their own willingness to defend power over people. And that’s why they cling to denial like it’s a family heirloom. Because if they admit the truth, my truth, your truth, the truth of millions of survivors, then they have to admit that the world they defend is built on harm. And that’s a reckoning they’re not ready for.

In my life, I have paid a very big price. And I’m still paying it with every day, every breath, every memory that wasn’t mine to still carry 29 years later. But it got stapled to my soul anyway. Because a culture built on silence and excuses decided my pain was inconvenient.

And this is what rape culture does. It hands the bill to the victim. And gives the perpetrator a coupon code for sympathy. In a world shaped by the likes of Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, Donald Trump, and their other active participants. And a political environment where some people normalize. Excuse. Or minimize harm. I’m over here begging folks to simply stand on the side of consent. Not on the side of “well, boys will be boys” or “that’s just locker room talk.”

Because let’s be honest. It’s not. There’s a whole slice of society that treats sexual violence like a PR inconvenience instead of the life‑shattering trauma it is. A whole slice that will twist themselves into pretzels to defend power, wealth, and status. Even when the harm is undeniable. Be the person who stands with survivors. Not the person who shrugs at abuse. Simply because the abuser is someone you voted for. Prayed with. Or admired on TV.

Be the person who actually says, “No. Consent matters. People matter. Accountability matters.” The alternative is the cultural shrug. The political excuses. The religious silence is exactly how rape culture stays alive and well. And I refuse to pretend otherwise. We’re done whispering. The fire is lit. And my voice is getting louder. Thanks for reading! What are your experiences with this?

Affirmation: My truth is not too heavy. My story is not too late. My voice is not too loud. I am the fire that exposes what others fear to face.

Dear World, Please Don’t Give Up on Us: A Love Letter From a Blue Dot in the Red Sea

“Hope isn’t blind. It’s stubborn. It keeps standing up even when the world keeps trying to knock it sideways.”

-A Blue Dot American Who Refuses to Sit Down

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Tell the ancestors to clock in for overtime. Lord help us, y’all. The United States is going through it. And by “it,” I mean the kind of national meltdown that makes you look around and say, “Surely this is a deleted scene from a dystopian comedy that never made it to Netflix because the plot was too unrealistic.” Yet here we are. Living it. Breathing it. And trying not to scream into a pothole on I‑59.

To the rest of the world:

Please don’t give up on us. I promise you the majority of Americans are not standing behind the chaos, cruelty, or conspiracy‑soaked nonsense that has taken over our headlines. Most of us are exhausted, horrified, and Googling “how to apply for dual citizenship” at 2 a.m.while clutching a heating pad and a prayer. We see the instability. We see the authoritarian vibes. We see the white‑nationalist cosplay that keeps popping up like mold in a damp apartment. And we’re fighting it loudly, creatively, and with the kind of determination only a country built on protest can muster.

Yes, we know our leadership looks like a fever dream. Some people in power are making decisions that feel like they were written by a committee of raccoons who found a bottle of expired cough syrup. And our country is being run by a pube signature. Some are facing public scrutiny over their past associations. They include the widely reported connections between political figures and Jeffrey Epstein’s social circle. And the public has every right to demand transparency, accountability, and the full truth. People across the political spectrum have been calling for the release of all relevant documents. Because sunlight is still the best disinfectant. Meanwhile, the rest of us are over here like, “Hey world, please don’t judge us by the loudest people in the room. We’re trying to get the remote back from the uncle who keeps changing the channel to chaos.”

To our allies abroad:

We still see you as family. We still believe in cooperation, democracy, and global peace. We still want to stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with you. And not stomp around the world stage like a toddler who missed naptime. Please keep talking to your governments about ways to support democracy here. Not because we’re helpless. But because democracy is a team sport. And right now, our team captain keeps wandering off the field.

About the weaponized religion situation. Listen. I grew up in the Deep South. I know about Jesus. I know his work. I know his vibe. And I can tell you with full confidence that Jesus would be flipping tables so fast in Mississippi right now that he’d qualify for CrossFit. The loudest “Christian” voices down here aren’t preaching love, compassion, or justice. They’re preaching fear, control, and purity culture. Which is ironic considering how many of their own scandals keep popping up like whack‑a‑moles at the county fair.

Not all Christians are like this. Some are kind, loving, justice‑oriented people who actually read the parts of the Bible about caring for the oppressed. But in Mississippi I can count those folks on one hand and still have fingers left to hold my sweet tea.

And for the record. I embrace all religions. All ethnicities. All genders. All sexual orientations. All cultures. Except the ones built on cruelty, control, or harming children. If you come to this country with love in your heart and respect for human dignity, you’re welcome at my table. I’ll even make you cornbread.

If you are brown, seeking asylum, fleeing violence, or simply trying to give your babies a better life. You are welcome in the America I believe in. The real America. The one with a heartbeat. The one that remembers its own immigrant roots even when our politicians pretend they sprouted straight out of the soil like turnips.

The America I love has always been a patchwork quilt of cultures, languages, and stories. And it has been stitched together by people who crossed oceans, deserts, and borders because hope was louder than fear. That America still exists. It’s bruised, tired, and currently being held hostage by people who think compassion is a weakness. But it’s still here. And it’s not going anywhere.

We just have to clean our governing house first. And Lord when I say “clean,” I don’t mean a light dusting. I mean roll up your sleeves. Put on the yellow gloves. And open every window because something in here died in 1987. And nobody ever dealt with it. The corruption runs deep. Deep like “you’re gonna need a shovel, a headlamp, and maybe a priest” deep. We’re not afraid of hard work. We built this country on hard work. We can rebuild it the same way.

And let me say this plainly. Donald Trump does not speak for us. Not for the majority. Not for the heart of this country. Not for the people who still believe in democracy, dignity, and basic human decency. Millions of Americans across races, religions, genders, and backgrounds are fighting every single day to protect what’s left of our democratic institutions. They’re marching, voting, organizing, educating, and refusing to be bullied into silence. We’re not giving up. We’re not backing down. We’re not letting authoritarianism take root in the soil our ancestors bled to cultivate.

The heart of the United States will return. I believe that with everything in me. Not because things look good. Because they don’t. Not because the path is easy. Because it isn’t. But because the soul of this country has always been bigger than the people trying to tear it apart. We’ve survived wars, depressions, pandemics, corruption, and more than one leader who thought the Constitution was optional reading. We’ll survive this too. The real America is the one built on courage, diversity, and stubborn hope. And it is still here. Still fighting. Still glowing like a blue dot in a sea of red hats. Thanks for reading! And Fuck Donald Trump, ICE, and MAGA.

Affirmation: I glow in the dark. I stand in the storm. And I refuse to let chaos speak louder than my courage. My voice, my vote, and my hope are stronger than any tyrant’s tantrum.
