Title IX and the Cruelty of This Administration

“When they dismantle your protections, remember. Your voice is older, louder, and stronger than their fear.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Let the smoke rise like a warning flare to every ancestor who ever whispered, “Baby, stay ready.” The level of cruelty this administration has reached a whole other level of low. It’s not just a new low. It’s a spelunking expedition into the deepest, dankest cave of misogyny they could find. They didn’t just roll back Title IX protections. They took a sledgehammer to the foundation. Smiled for the cameras. And told women and girls to “be grateful.”

And I swear on every magnolia tree in Mississippi. Every grandmother who ever weaponized a “bless your heart.” And every cat currently judging me from the kitchen counter. This moment feels like a spiritual emergency. A generational grief. A slap so loud it echoes through the bones of every woman who fought for the right to learn, compete, and exist without being shoved aside.

Title IX wasn’t perfect. But it was a lifeline. A promise. A shield. And now we’re watching that shield get melted down into scrap metal while the administration acts like they’re doing us a favor.

So, let’s talk about what losing Title IX actually means. Let’s talk about the consequences. Not the sanitized political talking points. Let’s talk about the ten ways this rollback will hit women, girls, survivors, students, athletes, and entire communities. And yes, I’ll be adding sarcasm after each one. Because if I don’t laugh, I’ll scream loud enough to wake the ancestors.

Ten Consequences of Losing Title IX and the Sarcasm They Deserve

1. Sexual assault survivors will have fewer protections and fewer avenues for justice.

Because apparently the administration thinks the best way to handle sexual violence is to pretend it doesn’t exist. Oh fabulous. Nothing says “progress” like making campuses safer for predators.

2. Schools will no longer be required to investigate harassment with urgency or fairness.

Meaning victims get to relive trauma while institutions drag their feet. Wonderful. Who doesn’t love a good bureaucratic slow roast of someone’s pain?

3. Girls’ sports programs will lose funding and support.

The opportunities that shaped generations of confident, capable women, gone. Amazing. Because clearly the world needs fewer strong girls. And more fragile egos.

4. Students facing discrimination will have fewer protections and fewer rights.

If you’re marginalized, good luck. Perfect. Equality was getting way too mainstream anyway.

5. Schools can more easily ignore bullying and harassment.

Especially when it’s gender‑based. Fantastic. Nothing builds character like unchecked cruelty.

6. LGBTQ+ students will face increased vulnerability without clear federal safeguards.

Their safety becomes optional. Incredible. Because nothing says “freedom” like telling queer kids they’re on their own.

7. Pregnant and parenting students will lose protections that kept them in school.

Education becomes a privilege instead of a right. Lovely. Motherhood is hard enough. So why not add academic sabotage?

8. Disabled students will face more barriers to equal access.

Title IX helped ensure accommodations weren’t “optional.” Brilliant. Accessibility was clearly too convenient.

9. Women in STEM fields will lose protections against discrimination.

The pipeline shrinks. The future dims. Perfect. Who needs women solving problems when we can just not solve them?

10. Administrators will have more power to silence complaints and protect institutions instead of students.

Accountability evaporates. Amazing. Nothing screams “justice” like prioritizing PR over people.

This isn’t just policy. This isn’t just politics. This is a direct hit to the soul of every woman who ever fought to be seen, heard, respected, protected, and allowed to learn without fear. Title IX was a fragile, hard‑won promise that said, “ You matter. Your safety matters. Your education matters. Your future matters.”

Rolling it back is not an accident. It’s not a misunderstanding. It’s not a bureaucratic oversight. It is cruelty. Calculated. Deliberate. Cold. And I refuse to let them pretend otherwise. Women don’t go quietly. Girls don’t disappear. Survivors don’t shrink. And ancestors don’t rest when injustice is alive. We are the charcoal lit. We are the sage burning. We are the storm gathering. We are the daughters of every woman who refused to bow. And if they think rolling back Title IX will silence us? They have underestimated the wrong generation. We will rise. We will roar. We will rebuild protections they tried to destroy. And when history looks back on this moment, it will not remember their cruelty. It will remember our fire. Sage still burning. Ancestors still watching. Thanks for reading!

Affirmation: I rise with the ancestors behind me. The fire within me. And the unshakable truth that my worth is not up for debate.

The Bible Belt Is Tightening, and It’s Cutting Off the Circulation to Compassion

“If your religion needs an enemy to feel holy, it’s not faith. It’s fear dressed up in Sunday clothes.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. We’re about to grill an entire ideology that’s been marinating in fear, supremacy, and a whole lot of “Jesus said I could” seasoning. And before anybody clutches their pearls or starts rehearsing their testimony, let me say this loud enough for the back pew. I am not talking about the true Christians. You know the ones. The tiny, endangered handful who actually read the teachings of Jesus. And then miraculously follow them. The ones who don’t treat the Bible like a buffet where you skip the compassion and double‑up on the judgment. Those folks exist. But they’re more rare than a Mississippi summer without humidity.

I’m talking about the loud ones. The ones who have turned Christianity into a political brand, a power tool, a weapon, a personality type, and a personality cult. The ones who cheer when courts strip people of rights. Who clap when cruelty is legislated. Who grin when someone else’s suffering is framed as “God’s will.” The ones who make me as someone who grew up in the pews. Someone who knows the hymns by heart. Fear religion itself. Because the version they’re selling looks nothing like Jesus and everything like empire.

And down here in the South, Southern Christianity has become a full‑blown spectator sport. They’ll shout “Hallelujah!” While policies harm children, families, and communities. And they think that as long as they’re not the ones swinging the hammer, Jesus still smiles on them. They’ve invented a whole “Jesus Warranty” that supposedly covers all cruelty. As long as they’re cheering from the sidelines instead of doing the dirty work themselves. Here are some examples.

1. “God knows my heart.” Yes, Brenda, and that’s exactly what concerns me.

2. “Love the sinner, hate the sin.” Translation: “I’m about to be hateful and blame Jesus for it.”

3. “I’m just speaking the truth in love.” There is no love in that sentence. Not a drop. Not even a trace amount detectable by forensic equipment.

4. “God put this administration in power.” Until, of course, that same administration does something that affects their bank account. Then suddenly it’s “the devil testing us.”

Christian nationalism isn’t faith. It’s not devotion. It’s not spirituality. It’s power wearing a cross necklace it bought at Hobby Lobby. And southerners love them some Hobby Lobby. It’s the belief that God has chosen one group, one culture, one worldview, one interpretation, to rule over everyone else. It’s the idea that democracy is optional. But domination is holy. It’s the conviction that cruelty is righteous as long as it’s done “in Jesus’ name.”

When religion becomes power, it stops being religion. It becomes a regime. It becomes a justification for harm. It becomes a shield for hypocrisy. It becomes a megaphone for supremacy.

And the people who claim to “protect children” are often the same ones cheering on policies that harm them spiritually, emotionally, physically, and sexually. All while insisting Jesus will sign off on the paperwork. Because nothing says “family values” like ignoring suffering, as long as, it keeps your ideology comfortable.

If anyone thinks Christian nationalism is new, bless their heart. America has been dipping cruelty in holy water since before the ink dried on the Constitution. Here are the receipts. The historical kind. The kind that don’t name political figures. The kind that show the pattern loud and clear.l

1. Slavery: Scripture as Shackles

  • Enslavers cherry‑picked verses to claim bondage was “God’s order.”
  • Ministers preached obedience as holy duty.
  • Enslaved people were denied access to the full Bible. Because the truth might set them free.

2. Jim Crow: Segregation With a Side of Sunday School

  • Churches reinforced racial hierarchy.
  • Segregationists claimed integration violated “God’s design.”
  • Religious institutions blessed discriminatory laws.

3. Indigenous Boarding Schools: “Saving Souls” by Destroying Culture

  • Government and church institutions partnered to remove Indigenous children.
  • Abuse and cultural erasure were framed as “Christianizing.”
  • Religion became the mask worn by assimilation.

4. Anti‑LGBTQ+ Discrimination: Conditional Love Isn’t Love

  • Religious rhetoric justified denying housing, jobs, and marriage.
  • Conversion therapy was marketed as “healing.”
  • Policies restricting rights were framed as “protecting morality.”

5. Purity Culture & Women’s Autonomy: The Holy Handmaid’s Tale

  • Women’s bodies were treated as temples owned by someone else.
  • Religious arguments restricted autonomy.
  • Purity culture taught girls that silence was holiness.

6. Harsh Criminal Punishment: “Biblical Justice” for Everyone Except the Powerful

  • Harsh sentencing was framed as moral duty.
  • Compassion was dismissed as weakness.
  • Religion became a shield for punitive systems.

7. The Red Scare: Christianity as a Loyalty Test

  • Being a “good American” became synonymous with being a “good Christian.”
  • Dissent was framed as spiritual corruption.
  • Policies restricting speech were justified as “defending faith.”

8. The War on Drugs: Morality Plays With Real Victims

  • Addiction was framed as sin instead of a health issue.
  • Punitive policies were justified as “protecting families.”
  • Communities of color bore the brunt.

9. Institutional Abuse of Children: Discipline Disguised as Devotion

  • Religious institutions partnered with government agencies.
  • Abuse was ignored under the guise of “spiritual correction.”
  • Children suffered while adults insisted it was “for their own good.”

10. Anti‑Immigrant Policies: “Christian Nation” Gatekeeping

  • Religious identity defined who was “truly American.”
  • Immigrants were labeled threats to “Christian values.”
  • Policies restricting immigration were framed as moral protection.

The only time some conservative Christians seem to oppose the current administration is when the consequences of their own ideology finally land on their doorstep. Specifically, their bank account. Suddenly it’s not “God’s chosen leadership” anymore. Suddenly it’s “persecution.” Suddenly the Holy Spirit is suspiciously aligned with their financial discomfort. Funny how that works. The Holy Spirit always seems to agree with their wallet.

And bless the hearts of the ones who swear up and down that their Christianity isn’t Christian nationalism. While doing every single thing Christian nationalism requires. They’ll tell you they’re “just standing for biblical values.” While they cheer on policies that harm people. They’ll insist they’re “not political.” While their entire theology is shaped like a ballot box. They’ll claim they “love everyone.” While supporting systems that crush the very people Jesus spent His life defending. They’ll say, “That’s not my Christianity,” even as they weaponize scripture. Excuse cruelty. Ignore suffering. And wrap their ideology in a flag like it’s a baptismal robe. It’s the spiritual equivalent of saying, “I didn’t set the fire. I just keep handing out matches.”

Christian nationalism is the golden calf wearing a WWJD bracelet. It is the Pharisee with a flag. It is the empire Jesus warned us about. The one that crucifies truth. Crowns hypocrisy. And calls it holy. And if protecting your power requires harming others. If your faith demands someone else’s suffering. And if your Jesus looks suspiciously like your politics. Then you’re not worshiping Christ. You’re worshiping yourself. And may the real Jesus, the one who flipped tables, have a word with you about it. Thanks for reading! And what are your thoughts on this topic?

Affirmation: I honor the real teachings of love, justice, and compassion. And I refuse to bow to any ideology that uses God as a weapon.

The Genitals Administration: Now With Extra Hypocrisy

“Any government that talks more about genitals than healthcare is not protecting you. It’s projecting.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Today, we are summoning every ancestor who ever clutched their pearls. Hid their good china. Or whispered, “Lord have mercy” when the preacher said something inappropriate. We are calling forth Aunt Magnolia, Uncle Rufus, Cousin Pearl-with-the-bad-attitude, and every ghost who ever lived through a scandal. But NOT the children and NOT the animals. Unless you want to work for the FBI. Because what we’re about to discuss is not fit for tender souls or creatures who rely on us for kibble. They don’t deserve this level of anatomical chaos.

Today, under the glow of Mississippi humidity and charcoal smoke, we gather to confront a national mystery so bizarre it deserves its own Netflix docuseries. Why is the current administration obsessed with genitals? Not healthcare. Not infrastructure. Not education. Not diplomacy. Nope. Just genitals. Your genitals. My genitals. Genitals they legislate, regulate, investigate, and allegedly crash Grindr with.

Ten Examples Of The Administration’s War On Genitals

1. Bathroom Legislation.

Some administrations build bridges. This one builds bathroom flowcharts. They’ve spent more time deciding who pees and poops where, rather than fixing anything that actually matters. My ancestors are pacing the spirit realm whispering, “Why are grown men so invested in toilets? Why are grown men spending more time thinking about where people pee and poop than fixing anything? If you’re this invested in toilets, go work at Home Depot.

2. The Historic Tradition of Grabbing People by the Genitals

A moment that will live in infamy. A moment that should’ve ended careers. A moment that instead became a personality trait. Sir, that is not a handshake. That is a felony.

3. The Grindr Crashes Heard Across the Nation They swear they’re “traditional.” They swear they’re “family values.” Yet somehow Grindr crashes every time a cabinet meeting ends. Coincidence? That ain’t coincidence. That’s congestion. And every time a Republican Convention gathers, Grindr goes down like it’s been hit by a cyberattack. Y’all keep saying ‘family values,’ but the server logs say, ‘thirsty chaos.’

4. The War on Trans Bodies

Bathroom bans. Sports bans. Medical bans. Everything except banning their own obsession with other people’s anatomy. My ancestors are lighting sage and muttering, “Leave folks alone.” If you’re writing laws about someone else’s anatomy, you’re not protecting anything. You’re just proving you think about genitals more than your own job.

5. The Cabinet of ‘Family Values’ That Keeps Getting Credibly Accused of Everything BUT Family Values

Every week it’s a new scandal. A new accusation. A new “misunderstanding.” My ancestors are exhausted. They need PTO. Family values? The only thing y’all value is plausible deniability.”

6. The Obsession With Policing Drag Shows

Food insecurity? Healthcare? Housing? Nope. Let’s talk about genitals again. My ancestors are throwing sweet tea at the wall. Men in wigs scare you? My mee-maw wore three wigs to church every Sunday. And our founding fathers wore wigs. Grow up.

7. The ‘Protect the Children’ Rhetoric While Ignoring Actual Threats

Men in wigs? Women in wigs? Everyone in wigs? Apparently wigs = danger. If you cared about kids, you’d fix schools. And hold the president, billionaires, and other politicians accountable for crimes against women and children. Not stalking bathrooms like a mall cop with a pelvic fixation.”

8. The Homoerotic Wrestling Events That Follow Anti-LGBTQ Speeches

They scream about anatomy while ignoring actual harm. My ancestors are filing celestial restraining orders. You can’t yell ‘traditional values’ and then host an event that looks like the opening scene of a Grindr hookup. Pick a lane.”

9. The Constant Commentary on People’s Bodies

Sweaty men rolling around in cages. Grunting. Flexing. Followed by an afterparty that mysteriously aligns with Grindr server outages. My ancestors are fanning themselves dramatically. Why do y’all talk about anatomy like it’s a weather report? ‘Today’s forecast: scattered genitals with a chance of hypocrisy.’

10. The Attempt to Regulate Genitals Instead of Governing

Every speech. Every rally. Every interview. Somehow it circles back to genitals. My ancestors are begging for silence. Fix the roads. Fix healthcare. End the “Epstein War on Iran.” Fix literally anything. Stop trying to run a country like it’s a pelvic inspection.”

As the charcoal crackles. And the ancestors lean in like they’re watching a soap opera, let us acknowledge the truth. This administration is not governing. They’re running a full‑time genital surveillance program. They legislate genitals. They comment on genitals. They grab genitals. They crash Grindr with their own genitals. They accuse others of immoral genitals. While their own are out here doing extracurricular activities that would make a church deacon faint.

Meanwhile, the American people are standing here like, “Can y’all please stop talking about crotches and start talking about the country?” But no. The obsession continues. The hypocrisy continues. The scandals continue. And the server outages? Those continue too. Charcoal smoldering. Ancestors dismissed. I delivered every comment like a Southern Beyoncé with a sociology degree and a grudge. Thanks for reading!

Affirmation: My body is not your battleground. My autonomy is not your agenda. My voice is loud. My boundaries are blessed. And my humor is lethal.

If My Cats Ran Conversion Therapy, It Would Just Be Forced Cuddling And Self-Acceptance

“If humans stopped trying to convert queer people and started converting their own hypocrisy, the world would finally be cat‑approved.”

 -Tinkerbell

The charcoal is lit. Sage is swirling. And the Mississippi humidity is thick enough to baptize a biscuit. My cats have decided to open a Conversion Therapy Center. And it is the exact opposite of the real, harmful mess humans invented.

In the human world, “conversion therapy” has meant decades of trying to bully, shame, terrify, or spiritually blackmail queer folks into pretending to be straight. It’s been condemned by medical associations, mental‑health professionals, and anyone with a functioning moral compass. It’s caused trauma, depression, and a whole lot of people sprinting out of closets like they were on fire.

But in my house? If my cats ran conversion therapy, the only thing they’d be converting your would be anxiety into a nap. Your shame into a purr. Your internalized homophobia into a snack break. And your fear into “come lay down, you’re safe here.” Cats don’t believe in changing who you are. They believe in changing where you sit. How often you pet them. And whether you understand that your lap is community property.

Me: “Why is there a sign on the door that says, “CONVERSION THERAPY: NOW ACCEPTING WALK‑INS AND RUN‑AWAYS?”

Tinkerbell: “Because humans clearly don’t know how to run one ethically, so we’re taking over.”

Coco: “Our methods are evidence‑based. The evidence is that you look stressed and we want snacks.”

Piper: (already dialing the therapist) “I’m calling her. We need professional input. Also, I may have scheduled you for a double session.”

Me: “Piper, you cannot call our therapist every time you have a thought.”

Piper: “I can and I will. I am a mental‑health advocate.”

Tinkerbell: “Now sit. We’re going to treat the trauma caused by those humans who thought they could ‘pray the gay away.’”

Coco: “Ridiculous. You can’t pray away something that fabulous.”

Me: “So what exactly is your treatment plan?”

Tinkerbell: “Step one: unconditional acceptance.”

Coco: “Step two: snacks.”

Piper: “Step three: we convert your self‑doubt into a nap. A long one. With me on your chest.”

Me: “That’s it?”

Tinkerbell: “That’s all anyone ever needed. Shame is a human invention. We don’t participate. We support traditional values like naps, boundaries, and minding your own business.”

Coco: “We oppose hypocrisy. If you say you love people, then love them. Don’t weaponize it.”

Piper: “We believe in small government. Specifically, a government small enough to fit on the couch and not tell anyone who they’re allowed to love.”

Tinkerbell: “We also believe in freedom. Freedom to be queer. Freedom to be soft. Freedom to not be spiritually assaulted by people who can’t even season their chicken.”

Coco: “Amen.”

Me: “Why is the living room rearranged like a counseling center from a 1970s pamphlet?”

Tinkerbell: “Because we’re reclaiming the term ‘conversion therapy’ and converting it back to something humane.”

Coco: “Also because you needed an intervention. And because we wanted to sit in the spinny chair.”

Piper (already holding my phone like she pays the bill): “I’m calling our therapist. She needs to supervise this. You’re spiraling again.”

Me: “Piper, you cannot call our therapist every time I sigh.”

Piper: “You sighed in lowercase. That’s a cry for help.”

Tinkerbell: “Now sit down. We’re beginning the intake process.”

I sit. The couch groans like it knows what’s coming.

Coco: “State your name and the last time you felt fully accepted.”

Me: …

Coco: “Exactly. That’s why you’re here.”

Tinkerbell: “We’re going to address the trauma caused by those humans who thought they could ‘fix’ queer people with fear, shame, and pamphlets printed on cheap paper.”

Piper: “We don’t do shame here. We do snacks.”

Me: “So what’s the treatment plan?”

Tinkerbell: “Step one: We convert your internalized nonsense into purring.”

Coco: “Step two: We convert your anxiety into a nap. A long one. With weighted‑blanket cat.”

Piper: “Step three: We convert your belief that you must earn love into the understanding that you are loved because you exist. Also, because you feed us.”

Me: “That’s actually beautiful.”

Piper: “Don’t get mushy. I’m still calling the therapist.”

She presses the same button 14 times. The phone opens the calculator.

Tinkerbell: “Now, let’s talk about the real conversion therapy. The harmful kind. The one humans invented.”

Coco: “The one that tried to turn queer people straight by scaring them, shaming them, or telling them God was disappointed.”

Piper: “God made rainbows. Y’all need to calm down.”

Tinkerbell: “Our clinic does the opposite. We convert you back to yourself.”

Coco: “We convert you back to softness.”

Piper: “We convert you back to joy. And also, to the correct position for cuddling.”

Me: “So your therapy is basically love?”

Tinkerbell: “Love, naps, snacks, and accountability.”

Coco: “And calling out hypocrisy when we see it.”

Piper: “Especially the kind where people preach ‘love’ but practice ‘control.’”

Tinkerbell: “We don’t do that here. We do liberation.”

Coco: “And treats.”

Piper: “And calling the therapist.”

So, if my cats ran conversion therapy, it wouldn’t be about forcing queer people into boxes they were never meant to fit in. It wouldn’t be about shame disguised as holiness. It wouldn’t be about fear dressed up as “family values.” It would be about unlearning the lies you were told about yourself. It would be about reclaiming the softness you buried to survive. It would be about healing the parts of you that were taught to hide. It would be about converting the world’s cruelty into your own comfort.

My cats who are judgmental, biscuit‑making therapists know something the humans who invented harmful conversion therapy never understood. You don’t fix people by breaking them. You fix people by loving them so loudly that the shame can’t hear itself anymore. And if that means forced cuddling? If that means naps you didn’t schedule? If that means Piper calling our therapist every time I breathe wrong? Then so be it.

Charcoal is still burning. Sage still swirling. Cats still running the clinic. And the world still not ready for this level of queer‑affirming Southern‑gothic healing. Thanks for reading! And denounce conversion therapy. What are your thoughts?

Affirmation: “I am not here to be changed. I am here to be cherished without apology.”

A Letter to Parents Who Forgot What Love Means

“Love is not holy if it requires your child to shrink.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Invoke the ancestors. Because Lord, they’ve been watching this mess unfold for generations and they are tired. I can practically hear Big Mama in the spirit realm, fanning herself with a church program and whispering, “Baby, go on and say it. They need to hear it.” So, I’m writing this letter. This holy‑ghost‑powered, Southern‑fried, and emotionally charged letter to the parents of LGBTQIA+ kids everywhere. And I’m writing it in the voice of every queer ancestor who had to survive Sunday School shame, back‑pew gossip, and family reunions where the potato salad had more acceptance than they did.

This is a letter from me, a queer adult who lived through the fire. Walked through the brimstone. And still came out smelling like sandalwood and resilience. And I’m not holding back. Sit back while I speak some truth.

Dear Parents, before you bring a child into this world biologically, adoption, or through the “God told me to foster” pipeline, you need to sit with yourself and ask one question, “Am I going to love this child more than my beliefs?” If the answer is anything other than a full‑bodied, chest‑thumping, hallelujah‑shouting yes, then you don’t need children. You need a devotional, a therapist, and maybe a long walk through the woods to talk to Jesus directly.

Let me be clear. Jesus, the actual Jesus, not the one y’all weaponize,  never bullied a child. He never told a kid they were going to hell. He never said, “Love thy neighbor unless they’re gay.” He never threw stones at queer folks. He only threw shade at hypocrites. So, if you’re out here being your child’s first bully, oppressor, heartbreak, first source of shame, you are not parenting. You are spiritually vandalizing a soul God trusted you with. And I’m here to tell you with all the ancestors nodding behind me, that is not holy. That is not righteous. That is not love.

10 Beliefs That Mean You Should Not Have Children

  1. If your religion means more to you than your child’s humanity, you should not have children. Jesus didn’t die on the cross so you could weaponize Leviticus like a spiritual flyswatter.
  2. If you plan to be your child’s first bully, you should not have children. Kids deserve parents. Not mean girls with mortgages.
  3. If you believe your grandchildren are “tainted” because their parents are gay, you should’ve never had children yourself. The family tree didn’t rot. Your mindset did.
  4. If you teach your child to hate LGBTQIA+ family members, you should not have children. Hell is not the destination here. But your behavior is the road map.
  5. If you think “unconditional love” comes with fine print, you should not have children. God doesn’t do contracts. He does covenants.
  6. If you believe queer kids are a punishment instead of a blessing, you should not have children. That’s not theology. That’s ignorance with a Bible cover.
  7. If you think “pray the gay away” is a parenting strategy, you should not have children. Prayer is for healing. Not conversion therapy cosplay.
  8. If you’d rather lose your child than lose your church friends, you should not have children.Jesus ate with outcasts. You’re worried about potluck politics.
  9. If you think shame is a teaching tool, you should not have children. Shame doesn’t save souls. It breaks them.
  10. If you believe love must be earned, you should not have children. Children are not employees. You are not their boss. Love is not a performance review.

Let me take a deep breath. Pull up a rocking chair on the porch of truth. And say this slow enough for even the folks in the back pew. This is for the ones who pretend they’re reading scripture. But are really scrolling Facebook to understand. If your love cannot stretch wide enough to hold a queer child, then your love is not love. It is fear dressed up in Sunday clothes.

And I’m going to tell you something the ancestors have been whispering for decades. Children come through you. Not for you. They are not born to validate your beliefs, your image, your reputation, or your standing in the church bulletin. Children are not your emotional support trophies. They are not your redemption arc. They are not your second chance at being the person you wish you were. They are not your spiritual PR campaign.

They are souls that are whole, holy, and handcrafted by the same God you claim to worship. And if you cannot love them without conditions, ultimatums, threats of hellfire, “pray it away” nonsense, and shame disguised as righteousness, then you are not parenting. You are performing. You are auditioning for approval from people who wouldn’t show up for you if your house caught fire. You are sacrificing your child’s mental health on the altar of “What  will the church ladies think?” You are choosing doctrine over devotion. Fear over family. And ego over empathy.

Let me say this louder with the ancestors stomping their feet like a praise break behind me. Jesus never asked a child to shrink so a parent could feel tall. Jesus never told a child to hide so a parent could feel holy. Jesus never demanded silence from the oppressed to comfort the oppressor.

If your child comes out to you in fear, trembling, hope, desperation, and your first instinct is to shame them. Correct them. Punish them. Or “fix” them. Then you have misunderstood the entire point of parenthood.

And if your response is, “Well, I love them. But I don’t support their lifestyle,” let me lovingly, sarcastically, and spiritually inform you. Your child does not have a lifestyle. They have a life. And you are either in it, or you are not.

If you think rejecting your child is righteous. I promise you that Jesus is looking down at you like, “That’s not what I said.” If you think your child’s identity is a sin. But your cruelty isn’t. You might want to reread the red‑letter parts of the Bible. The ones where Jesus actually speaks. Because he spent his entire ministry calling out people who acted exactly like that.

If you think your child’s queerness is a burden. But your judgment isn’t. You need to sit with that. If you think your child’s truth is dangerous. But your silence isn’t. You need to sit with that. If you think your child’s love is wrong. But your rejection is holy. You need to sit with that.

And while you’re sitting, let me offer you the kind of truth that makes the ancestors nod and Jesus raise an eyebrow. Queer kids do not break families. Parents who choose fear over love do. Queer kids do not destroy homes. Parents who weaponize scripture do. Queer kids do not cause generational trauma. Parents who refuse to evolve do. And heterosexual parents create gay children. They don’t create themselves.

Queer kids do not walk away from families lightly. Parents who make home unsafe push them out. And if you lose your child because you could not love them fully, freely, and fiercely. That is not their sin. That is your consequence. If you cannot love a queer child. You are not ready to love any child. If your heart cannot expand. Your family cannot grow. If your faith cannot bend. Your relationships will break. If your compassion cannot stretch. Your legacy will shrink.

And one day you will look back and realize that the child you rejected was the one who could’ve taught you the most about love. But by then, they’ll be gone. And they’ll be loved somewhere else. Fully. Joyfully. Safely. And without conditions. Ancestors humming. Jesus nodding. And the truth standing tall. Thanks for reading! What are your thoughts?

Affirmation: I honor my truth, identity, and my worth. And I refuse to let anyone’s fear masquerading as faith define me.

It’s National Coming Out Week, Y’all And Conservative Facebook Is Shaking

“Living your truth is the loudest. Proudest act of rebellion. And baby, it’s contagious.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. And call upon the ancestors. It is National Coming Out Week! And the spirits are ready for a show. Before we let my cats start their usual porch‑swing chaos, let’s set the stage.

National Coming Out Week is all about celebrating truth, courage, and the glorious moment when someone says, “This is who I am. And I’m done pretending otherwise.” It’s about honoring every person who steps into their identity loudly, quietly, flamboyantly, nervously, or with the confidence of a drag queen who just found out the sequins were buy‑one‑get‑one. It’s a week of visibility, joy, and community. The reminder that coming out isn’t just an announcement. It’s liberation. It’s choosing authenticity over fear. Connection over silence. And pride over shame. And honey, that deserves a parade, a potluck, and at least three casseroles.

Piper: “Momma, I’m declaring myself the official mascot of National Coming Out Week. I’ve been coming out of closets, cabinets, and the neighbor’s boat shed since 2019. I am basically the Rosa Parks of dramatic entrances.”

Coco: “Piper, you come out because you break in. That’s not activism. That’s burglary. And I’m coming out as exhausted by your delusions.”

Tinkerbell: “I would like to come out as spiritually evolved. I have transcended. I am now operating on a higher frequency. Y’all wouldn’t understand.”

Piper: “Tinkerbell, you cried for 45 minutes last week because your shadow ‘looked disappointed.’ You are not transcended. You are fragile.”

Coco: “And let’s not forget when you tried to sage the litter box. The ancestors did not ask for that. They were probably up there hollerin,’ ‘Girl, stop’!”

Tinkerbell: “I was cleansing the negativity. Y’all are toxic.”

Piper: “Anyway, Momma, tell the people how National Coming Out Week works in Mississippi. Tell them how folks whisper ‘I’m gay’ like they’re confessing to stealing the church’s folding chairs.”

Coco: “Or how the local conservative Facebook group thinks ‘coming out’ means revealing your secret banana pudding recipe.”

Tinkerbell: “Or how Pastor Earl says, ‘We welcome everyone.’ But his eyebrow twitches like it’s trying to file for emancipation.”

Down here coming out can feel like announcing you’ve switched from sweet tea to unsweetened. Folks gasp. Someone faints. A distant cousin writes a Facebook post that begins with, “I’m not judging, BUT…” But National Coming Out Week is about joy, truth, and living louder than a cicada in mating season. It’s about saying, “My identity is not up for debate, discussion, or discount.”

It’s about celebrating every story, step, and brave moment. Even the tiny ones. Even the “I’m not ready to tell Aunt Linda yet because she still thinks Lady Gaga is a witch” steps. And it’s about knowing the ancestors are nodding. The universe is vibing. And your cats are probably judging. But lovingly.

So as the charcoal burns. The sage smokes. And the ancestors lean in like they’re watching a telenovela, remember this. Coming out isn’t a one‑time event. It’s a lifelong celebration. A reclamation. A declaration that you refuse to shrink yourself to fit inside somebody’s casserole dish of expectations. And if anyone in the conservative South gets confused, just smile sweetly. Adjust your crown and say, “I didn’t come out for your comfort. I came out for my joy.” Then strut away like Piper after knocking something off the counter. Coco after stealing snacks. Or Tinkerbell after achieving inner peace for 11 seconds.

National Coming Out Week: Where the truth is loud. The humor is louder. And the ancestors are hollerin’ ‘YASSSSS.’ Thanks for reading! And come on out!!!💙🇺🇸🏳️‍🌈

Affirmation: My truth is sacred. My identity is powerful. And I walk forward with pride, humor, and a whole lot of Southern sparkle.

Mike Johnson: The Speaker Who Tried to Out‑Pray Reality

“Hypocrisy is loud. But truth has a way of hollering back.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle “Oh my GOD this is terrible.” And call upon the ancestors. We’re about to talk about Speaker of the House “Moses” Mike “Grindr” Johnson. Also known as the leader of the Closetocracy. The man who somehow manages to be both the nation’s top lawmaker. And the world’s most chaotic religious plot twist. Ancestors, gather ‘round. Bring sweet tea. Bring smelling salts. Bring a fan. Because this level of hypocrisy has me sweating like a Pentecostal preacher caught in a drag brunch.

The political and religious hypocrisy in this country has gotten so loud it’s rattling the picture frames in my hallway. Somebody grab the emergency sweet tea. We’re going to talk about the kind of political behavior that makes the ancestors collectively sigh.

This is about The Speaker of the House and the Biblical‑themed, reality‑TV‑level chaos that has unfolded since he picked up that gavel. And yes, we’re using real facts. And yes we’re adding Southern sarcasm so thick you could spread it on a biscuit.

10 FACTUAL THINGS MIKE JOHNSON HAS DONE, WITH SOURCES, AND A WHOLE LOT OF SOUTHERN SARCASM

1. Said God put him in the Speaker’s chair.

2. Compared his leadership role to Moses.

He invoked biblical figures to explain his political mission. Source: Washington Post https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/11/01/mike-johnson-religion/ (washingtonpost.com in Bing)

Southern translation: Sir, Moses parted the Red Sea. You can’t even part your caucus.

3. Co‑authored a legal brief defending Louisiana’s same‑sex marriage ban.

He argued same‑sex marriage would harm society. Source: AP News https://apnews.com/article/mike-johnson-louisiana-same-sex-marriage-brief-8e3f6a6e7c7f4c0b9a8f2e8e3e4a2b6b(apnews.com in Bing)

Southern translation: He said marriage equality was dangerous. While ignoring the actual dangers like Congress itself.

4. Supported criminalizing same‑sex relationships earlier in his career.

He wrote op‑eds defending laws against “homosexual conduct.” Source: CNN https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/26/politics/mike-johnson-anti-lgbtq-writings/index.html (cnn.com in Bing)

Southern translation: He tried to legislate love like it was a zoning violation.

5. Promoted “covenant marriage” to make divorce harder.

He pushed stricter marriage laws requiring counseling. Source: Politico https://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/27/mike-johnson-covenant-marriage-00124239(politico.com in Bing)

Southern translation: He said marriage should be harder to leave. Meanwhile half the country is trying to leave the group chat.

6. Opposes abortion in all cases, including rape and incest.

Southern translation: Louisiana said “help,” and he said “thoughts and prayers only.”

9. Advocated for monitoring pornography as a “moral threat.”

He pushed anti‑porn activism and surveillance. Source: Rolling Stone https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/mike-johnson-anti-porn-activism-1234854567/ (rollingstone.com in Bing)

Southern translation: He wants to track your browser history like it’s a Fitbit.

10. Called climate change a hoax.

He dismissed climate science and opposed environmental regulations. Source: The Guardianhttps://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/oct/26/mike-johnson-climate-change-hoax (theguardian.com in Bing)

Southern translation: Sir, the Gulf of Mexico is boiling like crawfish water. This is not the time.

Light the charcoal again. Because this whole situation needs a spiritual cleansing, a sage bundle, and maybe a priest. The Speaker’s record is a masterclass in political contradiction:

  • Biblical metaphors for leadership.
  • Restrictive policies for families.
  • Attempts to overturn elections.
  • Climate denial while the South melts like a candle.
  • LGBTQIA+ scapegoating while preaching “love thy neighbor.”

It’s the kind of hypocrisy that makes Southern liberals clutch their pearls and say, “Lord, take the wheel, the whole car, and the insurance policy.” The ancestors are tired. The sweet tea is gone. And I’m officially closed for renovations due to excessive foolishness. Thanks for reading! And get out and vote.“So what do you think? Is reality being dramatic? Or is Mike “Grindr” Johnson just trying to pray the plot twist away?”

Affirmation: I stand firm in my truth, my identity, and my joy. No matter who tries to rewrite the narrative.

I’ve Had It Podcast: The Southern Sass Survival Guide for Blue Dots in Red States

“Sometimes the only thing keeping me from losing my already lost religion is two Oklahoma women yelling about petty grievances.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Invoke the ancestors. Preferably the messy ones. The ones who show up wearing house shoes. Clutching a gas‑station fountain drink. And whispering, “You’re gonna wanna sit down for this one.”

Because today, we gather in the sacred, humid, mosquito‑infested, spiritually charged arena to praise. Roast. And spiritually hydrate the chaotic holiness that is the I’ve Had It Podcast. The only place where two white liberal women from the red MAGA plains of Oklahoma have somehow built a sanctuary for every exhausted blue‑dot soul trying to survive in a country where people still proudly drink out of Stanley cups like it’s a personality trait. Let me set the table like MeeMaw used to that is loud. And with sweet tea strong enough to dissolve enamel.

Jennifer Welch and Angie “Pumps” Sullivan aren’t just podcasters. They are the patron saints of Petty Grievances. The matriarchs of Messy Liberation. And the spiritual mothers of every liberal woman trapped in a red state. While trying not to throat‑punch someone at the grocery store.

Jennifer, the sarcastically blunt atheist queen, speaks with the kind of clarity that only comes from years of saying, “No, actually, that is stupid” out loud. She’s the type of woman who could walk into a revival tent. Sneeze. And accidentally deconstruct someone’s entire theology. On a side note I’ll also say that she is an Olympic level Pickle Ball Champion like we’ve never seen before in the history of the world.

Then there’s Pumps. Lord help us all. Pumps is a recovering evangelical, the HBIC (Head Beaver In Charge), the teeny weenieologist, the MeeMaw Meat Curtains because she is much older than Jennifer. And apparently the patron saint of Asexuality in the Bible Belt. Her last sexual encounter was somewhere around 1,000 days ago. And Jennifer multiplies that number tenfold with each episode until the math starts giving Old Testament genealogy. We’re approaching, “And on the 40,000th day, Pumps rested.”

And presiding over this circus of holy chaos is Kiley. The beautiful lesbian gaytriot producer who keeps the entire operation from combusting. She’s the glue, the duct tape, the Queer Logistics Coordinator who ensures Jennifer and Pumps don’t accidentally start a small fire while recording. She produces the hilarious fuckery with the precision of a woman who knows exactly how chaotic these two can be.

As a white liberal sarcastic woman myself from the red MAGA state of Mississippi, these ladies have become my emotional support podcast. They take the isolation of wanting equal rights for everyone. While surrounded by neighbors who think democracy is optional. And turn it into a family. A loud, hilarious politically petty family that supports all marginalized groups and stands up for democracy. Despite the red hatred swirling around them.

And let me tell you. And their nicknames for politicians? Baby, they speak fluent Southern shade. People like Donald “Cankles McTaco Tits” Trump, Moses Mike Grindr Johnson, the late Lindsey “Lady” Graham, “Big Titty” Bryon Knoem, “Smokey-eyed sociopath” JD Vance, “Lyin’” Ted Cruz, Flamboyant Jesse “Lady” Waters with Fox News, Natalie “The Bunny Boiler” Harp, Markwayne “Booster Box” Mullin, and others. I heard that recently they both spoke with Mitch “Dead Not Dead” McConnell for twenty minutes from his life support rehabilitation unit. They roast public figures with the same energy my Aunt Linda uses when she says, “I’m not saying she’s trashy. But she does own a leopard‑print Bible cover.”

They expose the closetocracy, the folks who legislate against the very community they enjoy on weekends, with surgical precision and the comedic timing only two women who have truly had it can deliver. Are they crass? Yes. Do they speak my language? Absolutely. Do they have a low tolerance for stupidity? Honey, they have a negative tolerance.

And Pumps, sweet Pumps, if she would stop vaping like she’s trying to summon a Civil War ghost, Jennifer might finally unclench. And if she would please stop pooping in Styrofoam cups like she’s conducting a science fair project, the online audience would stop peeing on ourselves from laughing. Get it together, Pumps. At least the saggin’ dragons are secured.

These women have been my morning oxygen for over a year. They are my people that are  hilarious. And, at times, inappropriate. Unfiltered. Compassionate. And petty in all the right places. If you’re a prude. Easily offended. Or still clinging to conservative Christianity where some Christians use scripture as a mascot for cruelty, this is not your ministry.

But if you’re like me a blue dot in a red state. A queer person whose family can’t quite figure out acceptance. Or someone who needs laughter more than judgment. These ladies feel like home. They are the family I needed. The humor I craved. And the reminder that democracy is worth fighting for even when surrounded by folks who think Jesus rode a dinosaur. And if island living as a blue dot in a red state is what it takes, then baby, I’ll take my new family without question.

So let me say this with the full force of my ancestors, my sass, my trauma, my cats, and my last functioning nerve. The I’ve Had It Podcast isn’t just entertainment. It’s survival. It’s community. It’s the comedic resistance movement for every marginalized person living in a state where Hobby Lobby aisles are filled with people who think equality is a threat to their throw pillows.

Jennifer, Pumps, and Kiley have built a refuge for the tired, the queer, the liberal, the fed‑up, the chronically sarcastic, and the spiritually dehydrated. They’ve given us permission to laugh at the absurdity of our political landscape. To call out hypocrisy with humor. And to find joy in the middle of a country that feels like it’s being run by people who failed eighth‑grade civics. And who ate boogers and glue but never outgrew those behaviors.

I will be a loyal gaytriot as long as these ladies are around. I will follow them into the trenches of democracy, petty grievances, and Pumps’ colon‑control journey. I will take this island living. This blue dot existence. And choose my new family without hesitation.

Thank you, ladies, for your humor, your compassion, and your unapologetic refusal to tolerate bullshit in this tumultuous time. You are the laughter that keeps us fighting. CACAW!!!! Mic dropped. Floor cracked. Humidity rising. Ancestors hollering, “That’s Right, Baby!” Thanks for reading! Please tune in every day to the I’ve Had It podcast for political news with lots of humor.

Affirmation: I honor my truth, humor, identity, and my chosen family. I choose joy. I choose community. And I choose to laugh loudly. Even in the places that try to silence me.

A Prayer So Wild Even the Angels Clocked Out Early

“Some prayers lift the spirit. Others just lift the eyebrows.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Hide your children, your casseroles, and your common sense. Because what I witnessed at that unfortunate local Mississippi event wasn’t a prayer. It was a theological Nascar crash. And every angel in heaven refused to file the insurance claim.

Picture it. A field full of red hats bobbing like a colony of patriotic mushrooms. The air thick with humidity, Axe body spray, and generational resentment. A folding table sagging under the weight of mayonnaise‑based salads. And a speaker system held together with duct tape and denial.

Then he stepped forward. The Chosen One of the Red‑Hat Prayer Circle. A man built like a refrigerator with opinions. A man whose shirt had more eagles than the actual sky. A man who looked like he’d been baptized in Monster Energy. He grabbed the microphone like he was about to drop a mixtape called “Gospel of the Grievance.”

He clears his throat like he’s about to summon the Holy Ghost, the founding fathers, and the HOA board all at once. And then. Lord help us. He opened his mouth.

What came out was not a prayer. It was not a blessing. It was not even a coherent sentence structure. It was a spiritual Yelp review written by a man who thinks the Holy Trinity is God, Country, and Bathroom Legislation. Then he begins The Prayer. The one that made the angels file HR complaints.

“Heavenly Father. We come before you today under this blessed Mississippi sun. Which you made hotter every year to punish the radical left for their wickedness.

Lord, we know that every single problem in this world can be traced back to them. The hurricanes? The liberals. The price of eggs? The liberals. My gout flaring up last Tuesday? Father God, that was the liberals too.

And Lord, we thank you that our sins don’t count. Because we carry the “Jesus Warranty.” We swipe it like a rewards card. We sin. We repent. We sin again. And you just keep stamping that little heavenly punch card. But the liberals, Lord? Unforgivable. They are the real ones on the predatory registry. Not all the republicans. But that’s none of my business, Father.

Lord, we thank You that here in Mississippi, we stay focused on the things that matter most like genitals, bathrooms, and our loyal governor who kneels so faithfully before the Orange Messiah. He bends the knee so hard, Lord, he’s got calluses shaped like patriotism.

Father, we lift up the windmills to you. Those demonic pinwheels of destruction. They’re out there slaughtering birds. Driving whales insane. And screaming so loud they give people cancer. Lord, we know the whales are acting up because they can’t handle the noise. They’re liberals at heart, Father. Sensitive. Emotional. Always protesting something.

And Lord, we rebuke the immigrants who are coming here to eat our dogs and cats. We know this because someone’s cousin’s neighbor’s Facebook post said so. And that’s good enough for us.

Father, protect us from the left trying to make everyone gay and transgender. They’re out here handing out pronouns like coupons. Even though they say that pronouns are in the English language. And that’s also a hoax. Next thing you know, my truck’s gonna identify as a Prius.

Lord, we thank you for the brave idea of firing nuclear weapons into hurricanes. We know it would’ve worked if the deep state hadn’t interfered. We thank you for the tariffs on penguins, Father. The money is pouring in. We don’t know where from. But it’s pouring in.

We thank you for answering our prayer about gasoline. It’s the lowest it’s ever been. Even though the sign says otherwise. But we don’t read numbers. Lord numbers are liberal. We thank you for the funds for the Pedophile Patio at the White House. We don’t know what it is. But the liberals said it’s bad. So, it must really be good. And that’s enough for us.

Lord, we ask You to bless our crosses. Which absolve us of all wrongdoing. We wear them proudly, Father, even when we’re screaming at cashiers or crashing Grindr. Not that we’ve ever crashed Grindr. That was the liberals.

And Father, we rebuke the rumors about ladybugs we may or may not have contracted from Lindsey “Lady” Graham. We don’t have them. We’ve never had them. We don’t think. That’s the liberals’ fault too. Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray for our bathrooms. We pray for our genitals. We pray for our Orange Messiah. And we pray that you continue to forgive us instantly while holding everyone else accountable forever. In your holy, conservative, red‑hat‑approved name we pray. Amen.”

As the final “Amen” echoed across the field. Bounced off the port‑a‑potties. Ricocheting through the humidity. And startling at least three confused squirrels. I realized something profound. This wasn’t a prayer. This was a confession disguised as patriotism. A spiritual tantrum. A theological meltdown. A holy‑ghost‑free revival sponsored by conspiracy theories and lukewarm potato salad.

The red‑hat faithful walked away feeling forgiven. Justified. And spiritually moisturized. Not because they’d repented. But because they’d shouted loudly enough to drown out their own guilt. Meanwhile, the rest of us stood there blinking like we’d just witnessed a raccoon steal a wedding cake.

If delusion had a megachurch, this prayer would’ve been the keynote speaker. If hypocrisy had a hymn book, this prayer would’ve been track one. If nonsense had a national anthem, this prayer would’ve been sung at every football game.

And here’s my final word. May we all be delivered from prayers that sound like Facebook comments. May our humor stay sharp. Our queerness stay loud. And our spirits stay unbothered. And may the next local event have better food, better theology, and fewer polyester hats. Thanks for reading! And thank you for your attention to this matter. Praise Be To Allah!

Affirmation: I stand rooted in truth, humor, and queer resilience. No amount of red‑hat chaos can shake my spirit or dim my brilliance.

Badass Affirmations For Today’s Gen X Legends

“I am one minor inconvenience away from becoming a cryptid who lives in the woods and only appears to steal Wi-Fi.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. If we Gen Xers are gonna summon our inner Badass Affirmations, we need fire, smoke, and at least one neighbor peeking over the fence wondering if we’re starting a cookout or an exorcism. (Honestly, could be both. Depends on the day and the humidity.)

Listen, Gen Xers. We are the generation that survived lead paint, lawn darts, and riding in the back of pickup trucks at 70 mph. And parents who thought “therapy” was a sign of demonic possession. We are the middle children of America. The duct tape holding this country together. While Boomers argue on Facebook. Ok, I do argue on Facebook too. And Millennials cry into their oat milk. And now? Now we’re supposed to “affirm” ourselves like we’re soft, gentle beings who believe the universe is listening. Well, the universe is listening. But she’s got AirPods in. And she’s halfway through a true crime podcast.

So, today’s affirmations are not soft. They’re not gentle. They’re not written in pastel fonts with butterflies. No ma’am. These are Badass Affirmations for Today’s Gen Xers. They are forged in sarcasm. Raised on MTV. And baptized in the holy waters of “I don’t have time for this mess.” And yes, we’re doing it with Southern sass. Queer sparkle. And a healthy side-eye toward the conservative Christians. Who, ironically, swear Jesus hates everything except casseroles and Hobby Lobby.

Let us begin with the First Commandment of Gen X Badassery.

1. Thou shalt not let anyone born after 1995 tell you how to live.

If a 22-year-old tries to explain “self-care” to you, simply nod. Smile. And remember you once moisturized with St. Ives Apricot Scrub and survived.

2. Thou shalt embrace the chaos.

We are the generation that watched our parents scream about Satanic Panic while we listened to Madonna and played Dungeons & Dragons. Chaos is our birthright. We don’t run from it. We season it. Fry it. And serve it with sweet tea.

3. Thou shalt not be guilt-tripped by hypocrites.

If someone clutching a Bible tries to shame you for existing, remind them Jesus hung out with prostitutes, tax collectors, and fishermen. Not HOA presidents. And if they still don’t get it, bless their heart and move on. (Bless their heart = Southern for “I hope your casserole burns.”)

4. Thou shalt affirm thyself with the confidence of a drag queen at a Baptist potluck.

You are not too old. You are not too tired. You are not too anything. You are a Gen Xer. We were forged in sarcasm. Fueled by caffeine. And held together by ibuprofen and spite.

5. Thou shalt remember that Gen X invented minding your business.

We walked home alone after school. We raised ourselves on microwaved pizza rolls. We learned to fix emotional trauma with sarcasm and a mixtape. We do not need Karen from church telling us how to parent, pray, or process our trauma.

6. Thou shalt embrace your gay sass, even if your mee-maw still calls it “your little personality.”

Honey, shine. Shimmer. Sparkle like a disco ball at a revival tent. If they don’t like it, they can go read Leviticus and leave you alone.

7. Thou shalt affirm your worth even when your back pops like bubble wrap every time you stand up.

You are still hot. You are still powerful. You are still the generation that survived dial-up internet. You can survive anything.

So, light the charcoal. Gen X is not just for ambiance. But as a spiritual act of rebellion. Let that smoke rise like our collective patience leaving our bodies every time someone under 30 says, “OK boomer.” And we have to remind them we are the generation that invented eye‑rolling, sarcasm, and emotional detachment as a coping mechanism.

Stand tall in your Crocs. Your orthopedic inserts. Your “I swear I used to be fun” hoodie. Lift your chin with the confidence of someone who survived dial‑up, Reaganomics, and parents who thought seatbelts were “optional suggestions.” Declare your affirmations with the boldness of a queer Southerner walking into a conservative church potluck carrying a rainbow Jell‑O mold and a smile that says, “Yes, Brenda, I am the agenda.”

Let your voice boom like a Baptist preacher who just found out the choir director is gay (again). Let your spirit shine like Aqua Net on prom night. Let your boundaries be firmer than your lower back when it locks up at 6 a.m. for no reason.

Because you, my darling Gen X legend, are a walking contradiction of grit, glitter, trauma, triumph, sarcasm, and survival. You are the generation that raised yourself. Therapized yourself. Caffeinated yourself. And resurrected yourself more times than Jesus’ PR team could keep up with.

You are the duct tape holding this country together. You are the middle child of America who learned to thrive in chaos. You are the badass who can say “bless your heart” with 47 different meanings. And all of them legally binding.

And if anyone tries to dim your shine or question your worth or tell you you’re “too old” for something, smile sweetly. Take a deep breath. Channel your ancestors. Your inner drag queen. Your inner grunge‑era rage. And your inner Southern auntie who keeps a flask in her purse. Then say, with holy conviction, “I survived the 80s, the 90s, and three decades of other people’s nonsense. I am not the one.”

Now go forth, Gen X. Be bold. Be loud. Be unbothered. Be the badass affirmation the world needs. And may your charcoal always light on the first try. Thanks for reading! Does this blog feel “right on the money” for our generation?

Affirmation: I am a Gen X masterpiece. I’m sarcastically blessed. Spiritually moisturized. And too seasoned to be shaken by amateurs.
