Domestic Violence Awareness Month: More Than Bruises, More Than One Story

“Leaving isn’t weakness. Staying alive long enough to escape is strength.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Call the ancestors the loud ones, the protective ones, in close. The ones who don’t mind flipping a table when truth needs to be told. Let the ancestors pull up their rocking chairs and lean in like, “Alright baby, tell it exactly how it happened.“ Because today, we’re walking straight into a fire that too many people pretend isn’t burning. And the topic is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

This month isn’t just a purple ribbon or a hashtag. It’s a national reckoning. A month carved out because silence has killed too many. Shame has trapped too many. And judgment has wounded too many who were already bleeding. It exists because domestic violence is not one thing. Not one story. Not one bruise. It’s a whole constellation of harm that is emotional abuse, financial control, spiritual manipulation, psychological warfare, sexual coercion, digital stalking, physical stalking, rape, threats, intimidation, and isolation. All of it real. All of it dangerous.

And Lord knows, the Deep South has a long tradition of saying, “Well, why didn’t she just leave?” With the same tone they use when asking why you didn’t bring potato salad to the church potluck. But today we’re not whispering. We’re not sugarcoating. We’re not letting judgment drown out truth.

Domestic violence is more than bruises. More than shouting. More than slammed doors. It’s the slow erosion of your identity. It’s the constant fear humming under your skin. It’s the way you learn to read someone’s footsteps like weather patterns. It’s the way you shrink. Fold. And contort yourself trying to keep the peace that never stays peaceful.

And let me say this with all the Southern sass I can muster. If you’ve never lived it, you don’t get to judge it. Because “just leaving” is a fantasy sold by people who have never had their life threatened. Their finances controlled. Their spirit manipulated. Or their faith weaponized against them. I know this because I lived it. Fourteen years in a domestic abuse situation that nearly swallowed me whole. The cycle wasn’t simple. It was a trap crafted with precision love bombing, threats, and intimidation. That is continuously repeated until you forget what freedom feels like.

I didn’t stay because I was weak. I stayed because I was scared. I stayed because I was conditioned. I stayed because every exit felt like a death sentence. And let me make something crystal clear. It wasn’t a billionaire. It wasn’t a senator. It wasn’t a monster hiding in the shadows. It wasn’t an immigrant. It wasn’t a drag queen with a story book. It wasn’t a trans person. It wasn’t a black person. It was a white, “Christian” man in the Deep South. One who used the Bible like a weapon. While twisting scripture into shackles. Preaching submission while practicing cruelty. A man who believed control was his God-given right. And fear was his favorite language.

That’s why Domestic Violence Awareness Month matters. Because abuse doesn’t look like one stereotype. Survivors don’t fit one mold. Judgment is easy. But understanding saves lives. It is a promise. A collective vow that we will speak loudly. Love fiercely. And refuse to let anyone’s suffering stay hidden behind closed doors.

And now, let me drop this mic so hard the ancestors stand up and clap. I survived what was meant to break me. I reclaimed what was stolen from me. And I will never apologize again for the fire in my voice. Thanks for reading! What have been your experiences?

Affirmation: I honor my survival, my truth, and my healing. I am worthy of safety, love, and a life without fear.

Cornell, LSU, and the America That Keeps Choosing Predators: What the Hell Is Wrong With Us?

“A nation that excuses its predators will always silence its survivors.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. And call in the ancestors. The loud ones, the unfiltered ones, the ones who never learned to whisper. Today I’m summoning Ida B. Wells, Maya Angelou, Nina Simone, Toni Morrison, and every grandmother who ever slammed a cast‑iron skillet down and said, “Not my babies. Not today. Not ever.” Because what we’re about to talk about requires their fire, their fury, and their refusal to sit politely while the world burns around us. They are pacing. They’re rattling the windows. They’re demanding to know how a nation with libraries, universities, churches, and a Constitution still can’t figure out that rape is wrong.

Cornell University and Louisiana State University are two institutions that love to brag about excellence, prestige, and legacy. Yet somehow can’t grasp the basic concept of protecting students from sexual assault. And now punishments include writing an essay? As if rape is a missed homework assignment. As if trauma is a teachable moment for the predator. Instead of a lifelong sentence for the victim. The ancestors are not amused. And neither am I.

Let’s ask the question America keeps dodging like it’s a bill collector, “What the hell is wrong with us when we have created a rape culture?” And don’t you dare pretend it came out of nowhere. Let’s start at the top at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Where 77,000,000 voters decided that sexual abuse, rape allegations, and bragging about assault were just personality quirks. You know the excuses about “Locker room talk,” “Boys will be boys” , and “He tells it like it is.” No. He told us exactly what he does. And millions said, “Sounds good to me.”

When the leader of the country can say he can “grab them by the pussy” and get away with it, why are we shocked when college students mimic the behavior? Why are we surprised when institutions protect predators? Why do we act confused when victims stay silent? This is not confusion. This is culture. This is conditioning. This is America refusing to confront its sickness.

Politicians have paid off victims. Church leaders have hidden abusers behind pulpits. Celebrities have settlements thicker than their resumes. And the public shrugs. But victims get shamed. We get interrogated. We get asked what we were wearing. We get told we “waited too long.” We get treated like E. Jean Carroll who was sexually assaulted, defamed, mocked, and dragged by the very man who attacked her, Donald Trump. And by his cultists who call themselves “Christians.”And you wonder why so many stay silent? You wonder why survivors disappear into themselves? You wonder why healing feels like climbing a mountain with no summit? Here are two recent incidences of the same type of justified behavior.

Cornell University — Current Case (2024–2026)

The current Cornell case centers on a lawsuit filed in September 2026 by a former student, Jane Doe, who alleges she was drugged and gang‑raped by seven Chi Phi fraternity members on October 19, 2024. According to the lawsuit, she was intoxicated. Coerced into snorting what defendants claimed was ketamine. And then repeatedly assaulted for several hours by multiple fraternity members. One defendant allegedly sent a Snapchat message to the Chi Phi group chat advertising “free pussy” to encourage more men to join the assault. Doe reported the incident to Cornell police weeks later. The university conducted at least 12 hearings. Of the seven accused, only two were expelled. Others received lesser sanctions such as suspensions, workshops, or essays, according to Doe’s attorney. No arrests were made. And the Tompkins County District Attorney stated there was “insufficient evidence” for criminal charges. Cornell confirmed the fraternity remains barred from campus. And acknowledged that defendants were offered opportunities to “mitigate their conduct.” But cited federal privacy laws in declining to disclose individual disciplinary outcomes. https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/cornell-university-lawsuit-fraternity-rape-allegations/?utm_source=copilot.com

Louisiana State University (LSU) — Current Case (2025–2026)

The current LSU case involves a sophomore student, Kendall Danielle, who alleges she was raped by an LSU football player on October 18, 2025, around 4:30 a.m. She underwent a rape kit examination and later participated in LSU’s Title IX process. Which concluded that the player was responsible for rape. And suspended him for two semesters. However, he appealed and was ultimately allowed to return to campus. Resume football activities. And participate in student organizations. Despite still being found responsible.

Danielle alleges the player’s mother contacted her urging her not to pursue charges because it could harm his football career. And that the player sent her $1,000 in an attempt to keep her from pressing charges. After learning he was allowed back on campus, she went public on TikTok and subsequently filed a criminal complaint. The East Baton Rouge District Attorney has since opened a criminal investigation. They are requesting reports from LSU, LSU Police, and Baton Rouge Police. LSU maintains it followed Title IX procedures and is cooperating with law enforcement. The player has not been publicly identified. https://www.wwltv.com/article/news/crime/student-files-sexual-assault-complaint-against-lsu-football-player/289-2bfa7986-e5fe-4d24-92db-9b069888c305?utm_source=copilot.com

But let’s talk about the roots of this rot. Is it the religions that teach masturbation is sinful? Is it the purity culture that tells young people their bodies are dangerous? Is it the sermons that say touching yourself will send you to hell? Let me be clear. You will not burn in the lake of flames for using two body parts God created you to have. For God’s sake, let them masturbate. Because when you shame normal, sexual behavior, you get people like the Duggars. They were raised in sexual repression so severe it turns into predation.

Is it misogyny influencers like Andrew Tate and Nick Fuentes? Men who teach boys that women are objects, property, and targets. Men who profit off hatred and call it masculinity. Or is it simply that America still refuses to teach boundaries? Still refuses to teach consent? Still refuses to teach respect?

Cornell and LSU are not anomalies. They are symptoms. Symptoms of a nation that treats sexual assault like a PR inconvenience instead of a violent crime. And when universities punish predators with essays, counseling sessions, or “reflection assignments,” they are telling victims, “Your trauma is worth less than his future.” And that is the message survivors hear every single day.

All predators no matter their status, wealth, influence, or fan base, should be held accountable. Not protected. Not excused. Not wrapped in a Bible verse and called “God’s Will.”

As a sexual assault survivor myself, I will never fully heal from the years I was assaulted. Raped sometimes daily by a man who is just like Donald Trump. I will never fully heal from the damage inflicted on me at five years old by someone who saw a child as an easy target. You will never understand that fear. And I pray you never have to.

Lift victims up. Lift survivors up. Hold predators accountable. Every single one of them. Because rape is not a mistake. It is not a misunderstanding. It is not a lapse in judgment. It is violence. It is domination. It is a choice. And America needs to stop pretending otherwise. Thanks for reading!

Affirmation: I am not what happened to me. I am what I survived. My voice is powerful. My truth is valid. And my healing is sacred.

Mike Johnson: The Speaker Who Tried to Out‑Pray Reality

“Hypocrisy is loud. But truth has a way of hollering back.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle “Oh my GOD this is terrible.” And call upon the ancestors. We’re about to talk about Speaker of the House “Moses” Mike “Grindr” Johnson. Also known as the leader of the Closetocracy. The man who somehow manages to be both the nation’s top lawmaker. And the world’s most chaotic religious plot twist. Ancestors, gather ‘round. Bring sweet tea. Bring smelling salts. Bring a fan. Because this level of hypocrisy has me sweating like a Pentecostal preacher caught in a drag brunch.

The political and religious hypocrisy in this country has gotten so loud it’s rattling the picture frames in my hallway. Somebody grab the emergency sweet tea. We’re going to talk about the kind of political behavior that makes the ancestors collectively sigh.

This is about The Speaker of the House and the Biblical‑themed, reality‑TV‑level chaos that has unfolded since he picked up that gavel. And yes, we’re using real facts. And yes we’re adding Southern sarcasm so thick you could spread it on a biscuit.

10 FACTUAL THINGS MIKE JOHNSON HAS DONE, WITH SOURCES, AND A WHOLE LOT OF SOUTHERN SARCASM

Southern translation: He wants to track your browser history like it’s a Fitbit.

10. Called climate change a hoax.

He dismissed climate science and opposed environmental regulations. Source: The Guardianhttps://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/oct/26/mike-johnson-climate-change-hoax (theguardian.com in Bing)

Southern translation: Sir, the Gulf of Mexico is boiling like crawfish water. This is not the time.

Light the charcoal again. Because this whole situation needs a spiritual cleansing, a sage bundle, and maybe a priest. The Speaker’s record is a masterclass in political contradiction:

  • Biblical metaphors for leadership.
  • Restrictive policies for families.
  • Attempts to overturn elections.
  • Climate denial while the South melts like a candle.
  • LGBTQIA+ scapegoating while preaching “love thy neighbor.”

It’s the kind of hypocrisy that makes Southern liberals clutch their pearls and say, “Lord, take the wheel, the whole car, and the insurance policy.” The ancestors are tired. The sweet tea is gone. And I’m officially closed for renovations due to excessive foolishness. Thanks for reading! And get out and vote.“So what do you think? Is reality being dramatic? Or is Mike “Grindr” Johnson just trying to pray the plot twist away?”

Affirmation: I stand firm in my truth, my identity, and my joy. No matter who tries to rewrite the narrative.

I’ve Had It Podcast: The Southern Sass Survival Guide for Blue Dots in Red States

“Sometimes the only thing keeping me from losing my already lost religion is two Oklahoma women yelling about petty grievances.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Invoke the ancestors. Preferably the messy ones. The ones who show up wearing house shoes. Clutching a gas‑station fountain drink. And whispering, “You’re gonna wanna sit down for this one.”

Because today, we gather in the sacred, humid, mosquito‑infested, spiritually charged arena to praise. Roast. And spiritually hydrate the chaotic holiness that is the I’ve Had It Podcast. The only place where two white liberal women from the red MAGA plains of Oklahoma have somehow built a sanctuary for every exhausted blue‑dot soul trying to survive in a country where people still proudly drink out of Stanley cups like it’s a personality trait. Let me set the table like MeeMaw used to that is loud. And with sweet tea strong enough to dissolve enamel.

Jennifer Welch and Angie “Pumps” Sullivan aren’t just podcasters. They are the patron saints of Petty Grievances. The matriarchs of Messy Liberation. And the spiritual mothers of every liberal woman trapped in a red state. While trying not to throat‑punch someone at the grocery store.

Jennifer, the sarcastically blunt atheist queen, speaks with the kind of clarity that only comes from years of saying, “No, actually, that is stupid” out loud. She’s the type of woman who could walk into a revival tent. Sneeze. And accidentally deconstruct someone’s entire theology. On a side note I’ll also say that she is an Olympic level Pickle Ball Champion like we’ve never seen before in the history of the world.

Then there’s Pumps. Lord help us all. Pumps is a recovering evangelical, the HBIC (Head Beaver In Charge), the teeny weenieologist, the MeeMaw Meat Curtains because she is much older than Jennifer. And apparently the patron saint of Asexuality in the Bible Belt. Her last sexual encounter was somewhere around 1,000 days ago. And Jennifer multiplies that number tenfold with each episode until the math starts giving Old Testament genealogy. We’re approaching, “And on the 40,000th day, Pumps rested.”

And presiding over this circus of holy chaos is Kiley. The beautiful lesbian gaytriot producer who keeps the entire operation from combusting. She’s the glue, the duct tape, the Queer Logistics Coordinator who ensures Jennifer and Pumps don’t accidentally start a small fire while recording. She produces the hilarious fuckery with the precision of a woman who knows exactly how chaotic these two can be.

As a white liberal sarcastic woman myself from the red MAGA state of Mississippi, these ladies have become my emotional support podcast. They take the isolation of wanting equal rights for everyone. While surrounded by neighbors who think democracy is optional. And turn it into a family. A loud, hilarious politically petty family that supports all marginalized groups and stands up for democracy. Despite the red hatred swirling around them.

And let me tell you. And their nicknames for politicians? Baby, they speak fluent Southern shade. People like Donald “Cankles McTaco Tits” Trump, Moses Mike Grindr Johnson, the late Lindsey “Lady” Graham, “Big Titty” Bryon Knoem, “Smokey-eyed sociopath” JD Vance, “Lyin’” Ted Cruz, Flamboyant Jesse “Lady” Waters with Fox News, Natalie “The Bunny Boiler” Harp, Markwayne “Booster Box” Mullin, and others. I heard that recently they both spoke with Mitch “Dead Not Dead” McConnell for twenty minutes from his life support rehabilitation unit. They roast public figures with the same energy my Aunt Linda uses when she says, “I’m not saying she’s trashy. But she does own a leopard‑print Bible cover.”

They expose the closetocracy, the folks who legislate against the very community they enjoy on weekends, with surgical precision and the comedic timing only two women who have truly had it can deliver. Are they crass? Yes. Do they speak my language? Absolutely. Do they have a low tolerance for stupidity? Honey, they have a negative tolerance.

And Pumps, sweet Pumps, if she would stop vaping like she’s trying to summon a Civil War ghost, Jennifer might finally unclench. And if she would please stop pooping in Styrofoam cups like she’s conducting a science fair project, the online audience would stop peeing on ourselves from laughing. Get it together, Pumps. At least the saggin’ dragons are secured.

These women have been my morning oxygen for over a year. They are my people that are  hilarious. And, at times, inappropriate. Unfiltered. Compassionate. And petty in all the right places. If you’re a prude. Easily offended. Or still clinging to conservative Christianity where some Christians use scripture as a mascot for cruelty, this is not your ministry.

But if you’re like me a blue dot in a red state. A queer person whose family can’t quite figure out acceptance. Or someone who needs laughter more than judgment. These ladies feel like home. They are the family I needed. The humor I craved. And the reminder that democracy is worth fighting for even when surrounded by folks who think Jesus rode a dinosaur. And if island living as a blue dot in a red state is what it takes, then baby, I’ll take my new family without question.

So let me say this with the full force of my ancestors, my sass, my trauma, my cats, and my last functioning nerve. The I’ve Had It Podcast isn’t just entertainment. It’s survival. It’s community. It’s the comedic resistance movement for every marginalized person living in a state where Hobby Lobby aisles are filled with people who think equality is a threat to their throw pillows.

Jennifer, Pumps, and Kiley have built a refuge for the tired, the queer, the liberal, the fed‑up, the chronically sarcastic, and the spiritually dehydrated. They’ve given us permission to laugh at the absurdity of our political landscape. To call out hypocrisy with humor. And to find joy in the middle of a country that feels like it’s being run by people who failed eighth‑grade civics. And who ate boogers and glue but never outgrew those behaviors.

I will be a loyal gaytriot as long as these ladies are around. I will follow them into the trenches of democracy, petty grievances, and Pumps’ colon‑control journey. I will take this island living. This blue dot existence. And choose my new family without hesitation.

Thank you, ladies, for your humor, your compassion, and your unapologetic refusal to tolerate bullshit in this tumultuous time. You are the laughter that keeps us fighting. CACAW!!!! Mic dropped. Floor cracked. Humidity rising. Ancestors hollering, “That’s Right, Baby!” Thanks for reading! Please tune in every day to the I’ve Had It podcast for political news with lots of humor.

Affirmation: I honor my truth, humor, identity, and my chosen family. I choose joy. I choose community. And I choose to laugh loudly. Even in the places that try to silence me.

Invisible Drones, Algae Shots & Cage Fights on the Lawn: America Has Officially Lost the Plot

“If the government wanted to distract us, they should’ve at least been successful at cleaning the pool first.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Tell the ancestors to bring EVERYTHING. Because today, we are grilling the latest chapter in the Trump Administration’s™ ongoing performance art piece titled: “What If Government, But Make It Walmart at 2 AM?”

My ancestors, who survived famine, war, plagues, the Great Depression, disco, and the invention of mayonnaise‑based salads, are hovering in the afterlife clutching rosaries, moonshine, and emotional support cigarettes. They whisper, “We did not cross oceans for this.” “We did not survive smallpox for this.” “We did not wear powdered wigs for this.” And yet. Here we are.

The White House lawn, sorry, the People’s Patch of Grass, has once again been transformed into a white‑trash UFC arena. Where sweaty men roll around in a cage like they’re auditioning for Magic Mike: Government Shutdown Edition.

The cage sits in the middle of the grass like someone ordered “UFC but make it emotionally repressed” off Wish. Tourists gather. Security pretends this is normal. And a lineup of men who look like they pre‑gamed with creatine, Axe body spray, and a quick scroll through Grindr. They begin stretching like they’re preparing for the world’s sweatiest Pride after‑party. Because nothing says “governing” like two shirtless dudes rolling around in a cage while America collectively whispers, “Is this foreign policy or foreplay?”

Piper: “Mother, why are the humans fighting in a metal box? Is this a mating ritual? Should we be concerned?”

Coco: “I’ve seen less homoerotic tension in a gay sauna on half‑price margarita night.”

Tinkerbell: “I’m only here for the snacks. Also, someone needs to drain that pool before it becomes sentient.”

And then, because absurdity must always escalate, the Trump Administration announces a fake assassination attempt involving Iranian drones that no one saw. No one heard. No one reported. And no one can explain. Because apparently even the drones were like, “Nah, we’re good.”

Suddenly, a man in a suit sprints across the lawn screaming, “THERE WAS AN ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT!” Everyone freezes. The fighters stop mid‑grapple. The tourists gasp. My cats blink.

Piper: “Mother, what?”

Coco: “By who? The drama club?”

Tinkerbell: “I bet it’s fake.”

And then the details emerge. The threat was Iranian drones. The drones were invisible. The attack was unconfirmed. The evidence was classified. The witnesses were busy. And the drones were never actually here. So basically, it was a crisis that didn’t happen. It was  reported by people who weren’t there. And it was involving drones that don’t exist.

Piper: “Mother, is this enrichment?”

Coco: “This is why aliens won’t visit us.”

Tinkerbell: “I’ve had hairballs more credible than this.”

Meanwhile, the Reflecting Pool…

Once majestic. Now the color of a Shrek smoothie. Flaking blue paint drifting like sad confetti. A smell that says, “Someone dumped a bucket of hot dog water in here.”

Piper: “Is that algae?”

Coco: “Is that paint peeling?”

Tinkerbell: “Is that the symbolic decay of national integrity?”

Me: “Yes, girls. Yes it is.”

And the Trump Administration never misses a chance to monetize national embarrassment. They announce the newest grift called:

THE PATRIOT PACK™ -$250

  • One (1) clump of algae harvested by an unpaid intern.
  • One (1) authentic blue paint chip scraped by a man named Randy who definitely vapes.
  • One (1) certificate of authenticity printed on a Chili’s receipt.

All in honor of the 250th Celebration of America, which would make the Founding Fathers want to walk into the ocean. Fake their own deaths. Or rise from the grave just to say, “We didn’t write the Constitution for this.” My ancestors join in from the spirit realm, “We crossed oceans for this?” “We survived smallpox for this?” “We lived through powdered wigs for this?” Great‑Aunt Myrtle adds, “At least the men are pretty.”

Enter: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Just when the chaos reaches peak humidity, a new figure emerges wearing flip‑flops, necklace of raccoon teeth, and the confidence of someone who once drank kombucha brewed in a boot. He steps up to a podium made of reclaimed pallets and emotional instability. He clears his throat. And announces, “THE REFLECTING POOL IS A MIRACLE.”

My cats freeze. My ancestors clutch their ghostly pearls. Tourists stop mid‑selfie. He continues, “This nutritious, peroxide‑infused, snake‑venom‑enhanced, algae is the future of American health.”

Piper: “Mother… is he okay?”

Coco: “Absolutely not.”

Tinkerbell: “I don’t want whatever he’s on.”

He waves a mason jar of glowing green sludge like it’s holy water from the Church of Whole Foods. He declares that one 8‑oz glass of Reflecting Pool Algae™ can cure Ebola, depression, substance abuse, homelessness, addiction, dementia, low sperm count, cancer, mental illness, autism, low birth rates, AIDS, seasonal allergies, Hanta virus, screwworm, Covid 1-19, bad vibes, accidental or intentional snake bites, rabies from raccoons, and “the spiritual constipation of the American soul.”

Piper: “Mother, that’s not how biology works.”

Coco: “That’s not how anything works.”

Tinkerbell: “I’m still not willing to try it.”

And of course it gets worse. He also announces the algae’s potency is enhanced by “a micro‑dose of raccoon penile essence. Which was harvested ethically from raccoons who died of natural causes such as bar fights or eating fireworks.” My ancestors scream in Latin. Piper faints. Coco gags. Tinkerbell whispers, “I knew raccoons were up to something.”

Some people cheer. Some people vomit. One man tries to buy a gallon jug. Another asks if it comes in sugar‑free. A woman from Ohio asks if it’s keto. He assures them, “It’s paleo, keto, vegan, carnivore, gluten‑free, dairy‑free, guilt‑free, and spiritually orgasmic.”

The Trump Administration immediately embraces the miracle. They announce a national algae initiative. A Reflecting Pool bottling plant. A Raccoon Essence Research Grant. A Buy One, Get One Half‑Off Patriot Pack™ And a new slogan, “Drink Up, America.” My ancestors begin drafting a petition to be reincarnated as Canadians.

And the leader of our horrifically spiraling country, President Donald Trump, is the man that governs like a Roomba with a dying battery. In the middle of the chaos, the cage match, the algae sales pitch, the invisible drones, the raccoon‑essence wellness seminar, he decided it was the perfect moment to take one of his signature American taxpayer funded, mini-stroke, dementia public naps, which his staff insists on calling “extended blinking” or “patriotic micro‑rest cycles.” Cameras zoomed in as his eyelids began performing what can only be described as a slow‑motion garage door malfunction. They were fluttering like a moth trapped in a lampshade. Tourists whispered, “Is he meditating?” While my cats debated whether he was buffering. Rebooting. Or experiencing yet another mini‑stroke‑adjacent moment that his administration would later blame on “wind fatigue.” Piper tilted her head. Coco rolled her eyes. Tinkerbell muttered, “Mother, the man is power‑napping through the downfall of civilization.” And honestly? She wasn’t wrong.

At the end of the day, America doesn’t need algae smoothies, raccoon penis extract, invisible drone attacks, cage fights on federal property, or $250 commemorative mold. We need accountability. We need sanity. We need leadership that doesn’t involve drinking pond scum like it’s a wellness shot from Satan’s juice bar.

And no matter how many shiny, chaotic, homoerotic lawn events the Trump Administration throws at us, the American people have not forgotten about the Epstein files. Nice try, Donald! Charcoal extinguished. Cats disgusted. Ancestors filing complaints. Nation still watching. Thanks for watching! What do you think of the embarrassing events that was supposed to celebrate our country?

Affirmation: I am grounded. I am powerful. And I refuse to be gaslit by algae, drones, raccoon essence, or commemorative mold.

Child Abuse Awareness: When the Safe Places Aren’t Safe

“When the places built to protect children become the places that break them, the wound isn’t just personal. It’s a failure of every adult who chose silence over responsibility.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the candles. Move the breakables. Tell the ancestors to take their seats and pass the sweet tea. We’re not easing into this one. And before the denial committee calls an emergency meeting to rehearse their “But that’s not what we meant” speeches, let’s go ahead and say the quiet part out loud.

Child abuse doesn’t just happen in the home. It happens in classrooms where teachers misuse authority. In churches where “discipline” is weaponized. In sports programs where adults confuse control with coaching. In friend groups where older kids exploit younger ones. And in any space where a child’s safety depends on an adult’s integrity, and that integrity fails.

Let me say this in the clearest way I know how. And  coming from someone who personally knows a little something on this topic, what happened to you was abuse. And it was a betrayal of power. Schools and other places are supposed to be safe. Adults in those buildings are supposed to protect children. You were not protected. And when abuse happens in a place that claims to be safe, the damage hits on multiple layers at once. It’s not just the act itself. It’s the collapse of every structure that was supposed to shield you.

You were a child. They were adults. The responsibilities were never equal. The conflict you still feel between “their job” and “your role” is a direct result of their failure, not yours. The tactics you endured weren’t just harmful. They were calculated. “Diabolical” would be the right word. The cruelty, the gaslighting, the public humiliation? These are methods designed to break a person’s sense of reality and self‑worth. Many adults would crumble under that kind of psychological warfare. Expecting a child to withstand it is unthinkable. And, yet, if you’re reading this, you did. Not because you should have had to. Not because you were equipped for it. But because you had no choice. That’s not resilience by choice. That’s survival by necessity.

Here are a few sources you might want to dive into.

1. Most child abuse is never reported (all types)

U.S. Department of Justice – Bureau of Justice Statistics“86% of child abuse cases are never reported to authorities.” 🔗 https://bjs.ojp.gov/content/pub/pdf/cv22.pdf (bjs.ojp.gov in Bing) (See section on underreporting of violent crime against children.)

2. Children often disclose abuse but are ignored or silenced

Health & Social Care in the Community (2025) Study on child maltreatment disclosures found that children frequently disclose abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, neglect) but are ignored, dismissed, or punished by adults. 🔗 https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/hsc.14336(onlinelibrary.wiley.com in Bing)

3. Delayed disclosure is common across ALL abuse types

CHILD USA – National Think Tank for Child ProtectionOver 70% of victims delay disclosure for at least five years, regardless of abuse type. 🔗 https://childusa.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Delayed-Disclosure-Report.pdf(childusa.org in Bing)

4. Institutional betrayal: schools, churches, programs often ignore reports

Journal of Child Sexual Abuse (applies to institutional responses across all abuse types) Shows that institutions frequently dismiss, minimize, or cover up reports of abuse.🔗 https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/10538712.2019.1570402 (tandfonline.com in Bing)

Note: While this journal focuses on sexual abuse, the institutional‑betrayal patterns. It’s documents are identical across physical, emotional, and psychological abuse.

5. Teachers and school staff rarely report abuse, even when required by law

U.S. Department of Education Report Only 11% of school personnel who witness or suspect abuse report it. 🔗 https://www2.ed.gov/rschstat/research/pubs/misconductreview/report.pdf (www2.ed.gov in Bing)

6. Children who report abuse are often disbelieved or blamed

National Institute of Justice – Child Abuse Disclosure Research Children frequently disclose abuse but face denial, minimization, or retaliation from adults. 🔗 https://nij.ojp.gov/topics/articles/child-abuse-disclosure-what-research-tells-us (nij.ojp.gov in Bing)

The wound you carry makes sense. Trauma doesn’t fade just because time passes. It imprints itself. It becomes a landmark in the psyche. And  something you walk around, navigate, and learn to live beside. Therapy can help you understand it. But it can’t erase the fact that it happened. And that it shouldn’t have happened. The gaslighting you endured stole something fundamental. Your ability to trust your own perception.

When adults deny a child’s reality, the child learns to doubt themselves. When they shame a child publicly, the child learns their existence is a problem. When adults ignore a child’s cries for help, the child learns that safety is conditional or imaginary. That’s not a child “being dramatic.” That’s a child being abandoned. And then abandonment by the very people who were supposed to protect you happened. The people you trusted were identified as educators, authority figures,  and other adults in power. And that leaves a wound that is both emotional and existential. You were trapped. And that was not your fault.

A child cannot escape a system built around them. A child cannot “just tell someone” when the people they’re supposed to tell are the ones causing the harm or ignoring it. A child cannot “make better choices” when every direction is blocked. You survived in the only ways available to you. Your mind did what it had to do. Your body did what it had to do. Your spirit did what it had to do. Survival is not shameful. Survival is not weak. Survival is not something you owe anyone an explanation for.

And the fact of the matter is that THE FAILURE WAS THEIRS. NOT YOURS. You were a child. They were adults. They had power. You had none. The responsibility was theirs. The consequences were yours. And that imbalance is the injustice you’re naming. What you lived through would have broken many adults. The fact that you’re here speaking and naming it is refusing to let it stay buried. And that is strength. Even if it doesn’t feel like it. Thanks for reading! And do your part to help protect our children.

Affirmation: “I honor the child who survived what no child should face. I am not defined by what was done to me. I am defined by the courage it takes to speak it.”

Affirmations Of A Badass #1

“My affirmations are so powerful that even my self‑doubt takes notes.”

-Unknown

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Negative energy go away. Today, we’re stepping into a sacred space of Affirmations of a Badass. This is where the vibes are strong, the confidence is loud, and the only thing fragile is your last excuse.

This isn’t your grandma’s affirmation circle. No one here is whispering “I am enough” while sipping chamomile tea and staring at a beige wall. This is the kind of affirmation practice where you look in the mirror. Hype yourself up like you’re about to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. And remind your soul that you are the main character.

This is you hyping yourself up just enough to function like a semi‑responsible adult. It’s self‑talk that says:

  • “I can do hard things.”
  • “I deserve good things.”
  • “I am powerful, even if I’m also a hot mess.”
  • “I’m allowed to take up space without apologizing.”

Badass affirmations are about self‑belief, resilience, and getting out of your own way. They don’t put anyone else down. They don’t require an audience. They don’t demand worship. They’re basically emotional caffeine. And let’s be honest, in 2026, we Americans need our emotional bank accounts overflowing, not overdrawn.

And for those of us who’ve lived through trauma, our confidence wasn’t just shaken. It was bulldozed, set on fire, and then politely kicked into a ditch. So, It’s our responsibility to rebuild what was lost. Sometimes daily. Sometimes hourly. Sometimes between sips of coffee. That’s why we walk into every day like we own the place. Because honestly, at this point, the universe should probably be paying us rent.

My power is loud. My confidence spreads faster than gossip in a small town. And my energy refuses to shrink just because someone else forgot their sparkle. I am a badass in progress. A masterpiece in motion. And anyone who can’t handle that, can step to the side while I strut.

And no, before anyone gets confused, this is not narcissism. Narcissistic Personality Disorder is dangerous, not a vibe. It’s not confidence. It’s a fragile ego wrapped in glitter.

Narcissism says:

  • “I’m better than everyone.”
  • “Rules don’t apply to me.”
  • “If you don’t praise me, you’re wrong.”
  • “Your feelings are optional. Mine are mandatory.”

Narcissism needs constant validation, lacks empathy, and treats people like props in a one‑person show. It’s not empowerment. It’s entitlement.

Badass affirmations, on the other hand, kick the door open, hand you a metaphorical crown, and say, “Get up! We’ve got a world to set on fire.” Being a badass isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up even when your hair looks like it’s been negotiating with humidity for three days straight. It’s about believing in yourself even when your brain is like, “Girl… really?” And it’s about knowing that beneath the chaos, the caffeine, the weed, and the questionable life choices, you are powerful, capable, and slightly unhinged in the best possible way. Now, take a deep breath. Center your spirit. And prepare your soul. We’re about to affirm the absolute hell out of ourselves.

The first affirmation for we badasses is this:

“I walk into every day like I own the place, because honestly… I do. My power is loud, my confidence is contagious, and my energy is too big to shrink for anyone. I am a badass in progress and a masterpiece at the same time.”

Translation: “I don’t just enter a room. I arrive like a dramatic wind gust that knocks over a plant and makes everyone wonder if they should applaud.” It’s the energy of someone who wakes up, looks in the mirror, and says, “Yes, I am the creator of my universe,” then immediately trips over their own shoe but recovers like it was part of the dance.

It’s the vibe of a person who walks into a retail giant like they’re the CEO and buys absolutely nothing they came for because their confidence whispered, “Do You Boo Boo!”

It’s the spiritual equivalent of wearing sunglasses indoors. Not because you need them. But because your aura is too bright for the general public. It’s the declaration of someone who is simultaneously building themselves, hyping themselves, and confusing everyone around them with their chaotic, unstoppable energy. Basically, you’re a masterpiece who occasionally forgets where you put your keys, but you do it with swagger.

And there you have it. Your first dose of “I’m unstoppable and mildly dangerous in a charming way.” If anyone doubts your power after this, simply slow‑blink at them like a cat who knows it owns the house. Because you do. You absolutely do.

Remember that being a badass isn’t about having it all together. It’s about walking into the day with confidence, resilience, and the kind of energy that makes people wonder what you know that they don’t. It’s about hyping yourself up even when life feels like a group project and you’re the only one doing the work. It’s about choosing yourself unapologetically.

Don’t worry. Rebuilding confidence is the state that I’ve been in for many years. It’s not instantaneous. It’s something that will require diligence, patience and perseverance even on days when you don’t want to. So go forth, you magnificent Tasmanian devil of chaos. Speak kindly to yourself. Strut like the universe belongs to you. And if all else fails, repeat after me: “I am a badass, and the world will adjust accordingly.” Thanks for reading! Now Manifest It.

Affirmation: I affirm my affirmations with such confidence that even my doubts are like, ‘Okay fine, she clearly means business.’

Dear Abuser:

I am the revolution you never expected.

Who am I?

I’ll tell you who I am.

I am the light you tried to strangle, the light you tried to stifle in your chokehold.

But my light bled all over the pages of your book, your preconceived narratives, your filthy words and your attempts to bring terror back into the blank space of my eyes.

Who am I?

I’ll tell you who I am.

I birthed revolution in my bones like the many women that came before me.

I ignited flames beneath my skin, using the fiery spirits of women who walked beside me

as matches; we breathed fire into each other’s hearts until the world could see us and from the ashes we were reborn.

Who am I?

I’ll tell you who I am.

I am the fear in your hatred, the pain that you tried to use to violate my sacred spaces, rip me apart until I was nothing,

but I knew I would always be something, somebody, and now I am.

I am layers and layers of the love and power that act as your kryptonite,

and with the words and actions of all those who rose with me, I’ll build an impenetrable wall.

Who am I?

I am the thing that nightmarish people have nightmares about,

wake up sweating about, thinking about —

their furrowed brows tense with self-doubt —

wondering if I and the other warriors I march with could ever come back to life.

Who am I?

I am the restless rebel you tried to bury,

the one you tried to pull out by the root and eradicate when she began to grow from the seed.

Who am I?

I’ll tell you who I am.

I am the girl you left for dead thinking she’d always fall and never rise again.

I am the girl you cut with your razor blade wrath, the girl you thought would never fight back.

I am the girl you underestimated, the woman you tormented, the child whose shackles you tightened.

Who am I?

I think you already know –

I think you understand.

I am the prisoner you tried to cage, the little girl you made afraid –

I am the woman who never gave up, the one who exposed your charade —

Who am I?

I am everything and anything that you will stand againstto try to regain control.

For every source of darkness, there is a bleeding soul,

one that shines so brightly that the entire war zone becomes illuminated.

I am the truth, your karma, the revolt —

I am the resistance, the pieces you tried to keep shattered, coming back together again.

I emerge quietly, but I resound loudly —reverberate through your skin.

My power was never yours, and it was never yours to take.

Who am I?

I am the second coming,

of everything and everyone

you tried to break.

What Is Narcissism? Part 2

“The Narcissist wants the authority of a king while having the accountability of a toddler.”

-Haryo Aswicahyono

My ex-husband and his brother are both very narcissistic in the way that they manage everything. They are not men. They are boys with very fragile egos that were destroyed by their father. Nothing they ever did was good enough for him. And his explosive anger was the way that he maintained control.

Their was also raised by narcissistic uncles that taught him the only way to raise kids is to beat them into submission. That is also how his grown children operate. If they don’t get what they want, they abuse their victim until submission is achieved. And my ex-husband was that way in every area of his life. Because physically they’re both just broken-down old men who use threats and intimidation. Because they would get beaten physically in a fight.

Where was their mother? Well, she was an uneducated homemaker for many years. And where was she to go or to do? Her circumstances didn’t allow her to take three children and leave. The services were just not available then. But what it caused was continuous trauma to others. If someone doesn’t put a stop to it then the abuse continues to multiply like cancer until it becomes the norm. Then, they become accustomed to what is now their normal life and anyone who challenges that must pay in whatever way they see fit.

I finally got enough and left. But his brother’s wife continues to take emotional abuse. I went into my next relationship and the mark of his abuse also crept in. I decided that I was where the effects of his abuse would cease to continue. And it’s been an arduous process the last twenty or so years in therapy. The way I got though life was so distorted once I was able to step back and realize all the damage that he caused. The most difficult part of living through it is that the PTSD that I sustained from his emotional, financial, sexual and religious abuse continues to affect me today. And sometimes the simplest of things are monumental.

I’m one person who has been through this. And there are millions more people, both men, women and children who are subjected to a malignant narcissist like I was. Will everyone get help that can be so beneficial? Absolutely not. And then the cycle will continue for another generation that are busy building more narcissists.

Oh, the kids can grow up to be successful in spite of the narcissism. Just look at our president. He oozes with narcissism, and he has a cult of followers who don’t see it either. It is all about his personal gain that is disguised as “Making America Great Again.” Those of us who have been abused by a narcissist can identify the “gas lighting” and “manipulation” a hundred miles away. Because some of the same statements and attitudes came out of my ex-husband’s mouth.

Narcissists rarely get help because they never see fault in themselves. They are great at dishing it out. But they absolutely cannot handle it being done to them. He very much wanted to be seen as some kind of a “big boy.” However, he had the emotional maturity of a toaster. My sons are already better men at 10 and 13 years old than he is at 68 years old.

So, I ask you, “How do I support someone like that? I’ve already been through its multiple times in my life. And if you really want to find out the total damage that has been caused to me by way of the narcissists in my life, I’ll let you talk to my therapist who continues to see me struggle years later.”  Thanks for reading! Stay educated. Stay safe. And keep smiling!

Affirmation: I resolve to walk away from situations where someone lies, refusing to engage with truth benders or gas lighters.

The Pain That Never Ends: The Final Chapter

“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’”

—Mary Anne Radmacher

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle the sage. Negative energy go away! I never thought that I would ever see the end to this set of blog posts. With it being such an incredibly difficult topic, I chose to take my time and release anything I needed no matter the pain.

Fast forward to 2012. I eventually underwent a total knee replacement in my thirties. It was the most excruciating pain imaginable. The care I received from my orthopedic surgeon’s nurse practitioner mentally transported me back to the days and specific events associated with my ex-husband. The flashbacks were unsettling.  I would be ridiculed for crying again, this time by a medical professional. I vowed to avoid doctors for the rest of my life whenever possible. I wish I could say that I would not be treated that way in the medical community again. However, this has occurred repeatedly.

I was so upset at an urgent care facility that I accidentally wet myself. The practitioner made fun of me yet again.  I believe that in various areas of education, when the topic of “transference” is discussed, the idea is often conveyed in a manner that causes students to negate the humanity of themselves and others. They often lose sight of the Hippocratic Oath, which states, “First, do no harm.”

In the United States, from 2003 to 2014, 8.8% of approximately 120,000 suicide victims have chronic pain. And has appeared to increase over time (Petrosky et al.,2018)

Within the last ten to fifteen years, I’ve also had neck surgery, two back surgeries, gall bladder surgery, trigeminal neuralgia known as the “Suicide Disease”, elbow surgery, a hysterectomy, spinal cord stimulator, left knee bone graft where I also had blood clots in both my leg and lungs. Additionally, I experienced COVID-19 several times while simultaneously being dealt another blood clot in my lungs. I now also have asthma as a result of contracting the virus.

Within the past year, the local orthopedic facility has seen me many times. Each time I consulted various practitioners, they consistently informed me that there was nothing wrong with me. But I was determined to be the squeaky wheel until I found help. I was compelled to seek practitioners in a different state.  Through my tears, I have persistently sought answers for my pain with the guidance of my dear “coach.” The suicidal ideations have been continual while going through this long, arduous process. A portion of the PTSD I experience is related to these and other situations. And to think, it was entirely preventable. This is one of my favorite quotes that pertains to this very topic is..

“If you don’t heal what hurts, you’ll bleed on those that didn’t cut you.”

-Anonymous

I am also about to undergo my thirteenth knee surgery. It is a revision surgery for knee replacement in which the prosthetic is loosening from the bone. This means that It has to be removed and another one installed. I have received only thirteen of the thirty years that would provide me relief. .  I am now absolutely terrified of going through this surgery again. The physical therapy will be challenging, and I will likely cry during every session as well.

Needless to say, pain is a significant trigger for me. It elicits a variety of reactions, both visible and invisible.  I have also come to realize that Dissociative Identity Disorder may not respond well to anesthesia either. I have been trapped in a mental prison, and chained to each of my perpetrators. But I must honestly say that it was all an illusion.  What I have come to realize through many years of abuse is, “YOU CANNOT, IN ANY WAY, OWN OR POSSESS A CHILD OF GOD!” That was his disillusionment.

“Anyone can hide. Facing up to things, working through them, that’s what makes you strong.” —Sarah Dessen
