If You Need a Hat to Think, You’re in a Cult

“Cults don’t ask you to think. They ask you to obey.”

-This Puzzled Life

Light the charcoal. Sprinkle something. Invoke the ancestors the expired gas‑station incense, the broken Happy Meal toy, and whatever that sticky thing is in the back of my junk drawer. Oh, and also the random items I found under my car seat. Today, I’m talking about cults. The religious ones, the political ones, the ones that swear they’re “just patriots,” and the ones that swear they’re “just doing God’s work.” While simultaneously hoarding power like it’s Halloween candy in 1987.

Let me tell you something. Propaganda is a hell of a drug. Mind control doesn’t require a spaceship, a robe, or a Kool‑Aid packet. It just needs repetition, fear, and a leader who knows how to weaponize insecurity like a televangelist with a microphone and a mortgage. And the wildest part? Nobody in a cult thinks they’re in a cult. They think we’re the crazy ones because nothing screams “independent thinker” like repeating the same slogans every day until your personality evaporates.

Cults aren’t just fringe groups living in bunkers. They’re any system where critical thinking is discouraged. Loyalty is demanded. Dissent is punished. The leader is treated like a divine being. And the followers swear they’re “free thinkers” while marching in perfect formation. Sound familiar? Yeah. I think so too.

Signs Someone Is in a Cult

  • They repeat phrases that aren’t theirs.
  • They defend leaders they’ve never met.
  • They believe questioning equals betrayal.
  • They think outsiders are “dangerous.”
  • They rewrite reality to fit the narrative.
  • They treat ideology like religion.
  • They think their group is the only truth.
  • They believe the leader is infallible.
  • They demonize anyone who leaves.
  • They insist they’re not in a cult.

And here’s the kicker. The current political landscape is basically a cult wrapped tightly in Bible verses, corruption, and hypocrisy. With a bow made of fear‑mongering and merch sales. Meanwhile, anyone who opposes cult ideology gets labeled an extremist. Because nothing says “freedom” like calling people extremists for not wanting authoritarian cosplay.

10 Well‑Known Cult Leaders & Fascist Dictators Who Turned on Their Own Followers

  1. Jim Jones — Manipulated thousands, ended in tragedy. But sure, tell me again how “your leader would never lie to you.”
  2. Charles Manson — Convinced people he was a prophet. Nothing says “chosen one” like a man who couldn’t hold a job.
  3. David Koresh — Claimed divine authority, led followers to ruin. Ah yes, the original “I alone can fix it.”
  4. Adolf Hitler — Cult of personality turned catastrophic. Funny how “blind loyalty” never ends well.
  5. Benito Mussolini — Promised greatness, delivered disaster. Another man who loved speeches more than results.
  6. Joseph Stalin — Cult worship, paranoia, betrayal. Nothing like turning on your own people to really seal the legacy.
  7. Kim Jong‑il — Mythologized himself into near‑godhood. Imagine needing propaganda because reality isn’t flattering.
  8. Pol Pot — Claimed purity, delivered horror. “Trust me” the famous last words of every cult leader ever.
  9. Sun Myung Moon — Controlled marriages, money, and minds. But sure, tell me how “groupthink is freedom.”
  10. The modern MAGA movement — Built on loyalty tests, fear, and identity worship. If your political identity requires matching hats, chants, and unquestioning devotion, that’s not patriotism. That’s a cult with better branding. And you have modeled your whole personality after a serial diddler.

So, here’s the uncomfortable, emotional, sarcastic truth. If you side with a movement that demands loyalty over logic. Obedience over autonomy. And devotion over democracy. If you defend leaders who treat followers like disposable chess pieces. If you repeat slogans instead of forming thoughts. If you believe questioning authority is treason, you are in a cult. Not a church. Not a party. Not a movement. A cult. Cults don’t just steal your vote. They steal your identity. Your voice. And your ability to think for yourself.

But the ancestors told me to say this loudly. You can walk out. You can choose truth over theatrics. You can choose humanity over hero worship. You can choose freedom over fear. And if that makes me an extremist? Then hand me the badge. I’ll wear it proudly. Thanks for reading! And go see a therapist for deprogramming.

Affirmation: I trust my own mind, voice, and my  ability to see through manipulation. No matter how loudly the cult shouts.
